So my friend has a 2000ish body style celica with a stock spoiler, and the paint on it has gotten bad so we were thinking of just taking it off.
my question is, before i dig around his trunk lid and take it off, is how should i plug the screw holes (simple solutions, please. no bondo, rimer, paint, polish type of things)? does toyota use adhesive on the spoiler? and some advice on removing the panel under the trunk lid so i know what to expect (all clips, some screws, etc)

Any kind of rubber/plastic plug found at the hardware stores should do the trick. Although it's still pretty ghetto, you can paint it over with some touch up paint to keep it from being an eyesore.

As for the removal of the spoiler, I can't help you there sorry.

it probably just has some panel (just for aesthetics) covering probably 10 or 12 mm nuts. take off the panel (which most likely has plastic push-in retainers holding it on) and you'll be able to see what's retaining the spoiler (probably has studs protruding from the spoiler assembly going through the trunk lid).

what about those plugs that police officers used to cover the holes in their trunk lids when they removed the spoilers on the Monte Carlo SSs?

i have thought about standard screw hole plugs from the hardware store. my only concern with that was the water-tightness of those plugs. guess i have to take off the spoiler first to see how big the holes are before i buy plugs. thanks for the help folks.

could you use some kind of silicone sealant/caulk to seal up the openings around the plugs or silicone the hole, then put the plug in?

yeah silicone would be your best bet....the celica probably has 2 bolts on both sides of the spoiler, probably 10mm.....some people use electrical tape...it covers it pretty good really... if not silicone and make it flat as possible...

Silicone actually can warp...and if you make it flat where you can't see anything sticking up, it's prone to falling in. Electrical tape is fine for temporary measures...but you should really do it right.
