View Full Version : Ghosts and hauntings?
I'm not sure if this belongs in this category but how many of you believe in ghosts or have seen some? I know Hawaii has quite the reputation of being haunted...
For myself, I feel these things. When I was a kid, I saw some but it grew fainter as I got older. When I was working in Hawaii though, I felt very strong spirits present at different times. Most times it'd be at work. I'd be minding my own business and then suddenly I'd feel the presence of something/someone. Or late at night at home, I'd hear someone singing (not a radio) even though I'm alone.

I believe a former house I lived in and another that I live in now are haunted. I believe in ghosts, especially after living in the house, which was located in the woods.

When I was working on Kauai. The Princeville Hotel. I don't know what room but, when I was working there after Iniki I was rewiring the phone jacks in that room when the air conditioner turned off. Now I was on the floor all by myself. There were people working on the floor above but, not below. So I go back to the AC unit and turn it back on. After working for a while more I notice that I got hot again. So I turn the AC on again and get back to work. So a few minutes later the TV in the shelf turns on and the AC shuts off. Sooo here I am thinking ok there are electrical and mechanical people working in the hotel. They are just not working on this floor so I check and yep there is no one. So I go back to the room turn on the AC again turn off the TV and being a smart ass I say. If there is something in this room with me you need to do better than that. As soon as I'm finished flapping my lip the TV goes back on the AC is going crazy. The toilet flushed the the privacy wall goes nuts!!! I finish what I need to and then leave. I go see security and ask the guy if anyone was on the floor that I was on. He said no. I then told him what room number I was working in. He just starts to laugh and walk away. I'm guessing that was his way to tell me yep its haunted.

me and some friends use to do ghost huntings at schools and stuff, i would read up on stories and check them out to see if they r true, or atleast some light of truth. From all the explorings we did, i had an experience with pearlcity high school, and i must say...it was pretty trippy...in its weird way lol. And for hawaii to be haunted, yes i believe it is, and i also believe u have to be lucky to see something or experience anything.

I believe in the soul and, if the basis for my belief in the soul is accurate then "ghosts" or visual representations of the soul are possible.
My theory:
Brains across humans are pretty much the same (i.e. identical physiological structure). What makes a human an individual is their "soul" or the composition of their personal experiences which are stored are drawn upon through electrical impulses. If we believe the laws of physics we know that energy can be neither created nor destroyed - only transferred. So when the body "dies" where does all of the energy that is the "soul" go?
I think that for people of weak constitution or personality the energy kind of dissipates into the surrounding area. But for people with strong personalities or the people "with lots of energy" it's possible that their energy remains clustered after death and there may be exceptional cases where that energy is binded well-enough to create a "ghost". This may explain why people who have come into contact with "ghosts" have observed them to be at the extreme ends of the social spectrum (i.e. either really good or really evil)...
but that's just my thought - or attempt to explain the soul/ghosts etc.

Dunno what part of Kalihi you're located, but you might want to check out "Behold the Many" by Lois Ann Yamanaka, a local writer. It's a story about children with tuberculosis sent to an orpahage deep in Kalihi valley, and how the ghosts of children who died there of TB interact with the living.
IIRC, the author grew up in the area, so the book is based on historical accounts and interviews of people who lived in the area at the time.
I never knew about the orphanage, but it kind of fits with what one of my friends who used to live up in the valley used to tell me. She used to see the ghosts of young children running and playing in her backyard, but they never really used to bother her or her family, so they just kind of put up with each other.

Yeah, tell us the story. I graduated from there and heard most of the stories, but when we used to drink on campus late at night, I never saw or heard anything weird.
But then again, I was usually pretty drunk.

what happend at pearlcity high...well...me and a group of friends decided to hangout at the bleachers on the football field and this was about 12am - 1am...sometime like that. had 6 of us so we split up in 2 groups with 3 in each. 3 went into the school and the 3 of us stayed at the bleachers but at different ends with walkies. i over looked the 2nd group going into one of the buildings and about 5 seconds after they walked in, i saw a white blurry figure fly behind them. so, i walkied them asking if any of them was wearing anything white and they said no. apparently i was the only one that saw it. i called them back and explained what i saw. thats pretty much it...

I lived in an old warehouse in downtown LA, off 6th and Alameada.
It previously was a casket maker shop. I thought nothing of it since I didn't think they actually brought bodies down there, but maybe I was wrong.
A few times I woke up with a little old lady lying next to me, figured I was sleeping and just shook it off. After the 3rd time, I started getting freaked, and moved.
Another time, I had to pee and it was about 1am. Got up, saw someone sitting at the dining room table we had. Thought it was my godsister, so I walked over, and saw her in bed sleeping... looked up and it was gone.
I believe in ghosts after that!

You're not nuts...lots of people have a sixth sense they are not aware of and contribute it to nothing more than an over active imagination, tiredness, etc. You are just more aware of things that can't be easily explain. Stuff like this runs in my family on both sides, so I just live with it as "normal" because for me and my family, it is. I always say that I hope my children will be like "normal" kids, as in not like my me or my family, but alas, it is not to be. All have shown signs from the time they were newborns to be "normal" like me...not sure if I'm happy about it or disappointed.
Of course, I tell my hubby, that of all the millions of people on this earth I could have married at any given time, I ended up marrying someone who has the same "normal-ness" as me. :yl2jump:
I have yet to live in a house that doesn't have anything associated with it. The worst for me was when I lived in housing in Ewa Beach and over by Pearl Harbor just outside the Nimitz gate. :gost:

Maybe it's because I'm a firm believer in Scientific explanations for everything, but I've never thought ghosts were real. It's an intriguing topic, but I think it's more of a cultural quirk more than anything. If I see proof one day maybe I'll change my mind, but I haven't seen anything as of yet.

The house that I live in up in Palisades is haunted. My family didn't know about it but, we've accepted it to be a part of our family. When it first showed itself...it was just a shadow that walks in our living room behind our white curtains, a little gust of wind would blow and it passes by but nothing else. But when my ex used to sleep over...I guess it didn't like him, and gave him the "Hold-Down" when he's asleep. (For three nights straight, it used to hold my ex down in bed while I'm sleeping and then my ex would wake up, tell me what happened and then leave). I found out later in the relationship that my ex was involved in something illegal - so I broke off the relationship.
With my new relationship with my bf, I don't feel the presence of the spirit anymore and my bf has never had the "Hold Down". So, I guess it had accepted him?
Other than that, there's a small spirit of a child that would be playing along somewhere up the road from Palisades to my street. When I would be heading home from the Palisades Fall, I would feel something jump in the back seat of my car and then a penny would fall into the glove compartment and as soon as I park my car, right before I would pull up my Hand-Brake...it would already be up. But I hardly go up Palisades Fall anymore so I'm not sure if it's still there?...

I grad from PCHS...I remember that A&B bldg is haunted. Some girl killed herself, I forgot how come? But she now walks 4th floor aisle of A&B bldg at PCHS. But I've never seen it. I guess because if they know you're looking for them, they will never show up. They only will when you lease expect it.

I went pchs too, had a lot of late nights there at klm parking lot.
It doesn't feel quite right late at night, I'd be scared to go into the school because of odd noises and feelings.

My friend works at Jarrett and they had a BBQ to celebrate the ending of the school year. Late at night they heard a pounding coming from the shop room. As they came closer, the pounding became louder. They got scared and ran off and the pounding stopped.

I heard Palolo get night marchers....my wife seen all kinds, her uncles head was talking to her in her bedroom the night he died. Started as a glowing spot on the wall and then she saw his face. She seen a menehune up a tree one night as a circle of her friend was talking story. She and her friends saw an old man holding a lantern at Manoa cemetery late one night (we was ghost hunting) we ran to see but he vanished. We used to go all over, Morgans, DH cemetery, halfway house...neva see nothing solid, but we got spooked pretty easy. My friends and I went Morgans, took a tray of pork chops (hehe)...heard some chains, some faint screams, then noticed both door locks were up. We made sure doors was locked before we drove down the road, this was a 69 Nova, no power locks...we threw out the pork and booked. This was back in the 70s, good fun. Now my kid asking me where can go fo see ghosts with his friends.

I suppose I do. Ever notice this kind of stuff happens with less frequency in "modern" areas? Archangel was saying something similar to that before, I remember. I think it has to do with the eye of the beholder. Those who "believe" are more susceptible to those type of experiences than those who don't, I think. Maybe. /shrug

I would run. There was this story in Obake Files about something like that. How this dude heard someone calling his name and it was this foine Hawaiian chica and he followed her. I guess it was in the boonies or something because I remember reading about trees and such. Anyway, he almost got lead into a deep-ass lava hidden lava tube.
