Relaxin Jackson.. oooh yea. I was there around 2001 August until March 2002. I was there forever because they would not let me go on to AIT unless I had at least an Interim Clearance. (Top Secret Clearance was needed for my MOS). Also I came around the end of August and the "Summer Rush" of new soldiers was dying down. There was not enough people that I came with to make a Battalion so we waited at Reception for 3 weeks. Fort Jackson is pretty chill compared to other horror stories I've heard from different people about various other BT sites. It IS co-ed so you will be able to see females, but that is ALL you can do is SEE. If you get caught fraternizing of course a Drill Seargent will come down on you. Soon as I got to my Basic Training Unit, Sep 11th happened and they had us doing Guard Duty around the perimeter of our Barracks.

It gets VERY hot in South Carolina the HEAT will get to you. They emphasis drinking water ALL the time. Before you go to bed you will be outside your barracks with a full cateen of water and you will have to drink it. I believe its called Hydration Formation. Cheesy huh? As long as you do what the Drills tell you to do you'll be fine. Just a heads up though, if 1 person is wrong all of you are wrong. They teach you how to work as a team so if one person fuks up all of you will get punished. Hmmm trying to remember what else I can tell you from my experience. If you have any questions just post em up I can probably answer them for you..

Yeah, well I'll be at least 10 years older than most of my fellow pvts.

I got about 3 months till I go and I have to lose at least 20lbs. :(

I got taped at meps AND at RSP and was like 2% under. :P

What particular exercises do they bust on you the most besides running?

Pushup, Situps, 2 mile ruuuuuuun.

Lets see.. Drill Seargents are probably the most creative people when it comes to smoking lil recruits.

I can't think of names so I will describe as best I can. Sitting against a wall with your knees bent and your arms straight out. Almost like a chair..

One of my buddies got caught dancing while we were shining our boots. So the Drill Seargent made him dance in front of our whole company for about 10 min.

The overhead arm clap is a Drill Seargent Favorite.. also the Cherry picker. Just imagine someone picking cherries from a tree and dropping it to your side.

Theres also another one that my Drill Seargent in Basic liked. You stand at attention, bend your knees till your hands touch the ground, then kick your legs back until you reach a good push-up position. Then you go back to the second movement then stand back at attention. Counting each movement as you do it, it goes 1,2,3 and then that is one. Do about 30-40 of those and you will be smoked.. especially in BDUs/Boots in 90 degree weather.

Forget everything u think about the army and remember this "I will never quit" cuz thats the only thing that will get u through anything. They call jackson relaxin, but more people fall out of there than in any other BCT.

PM me and i'll me more than happy to help u get prepared for BCT and ur military career.

shoot its been 10 years since i was there..seriously, compared to other basic's training bases, Jackson is one of the better places to be. im sure the army has changed its whole focus on training with the whole army of one deal, but just be prepared to be broken down in the first 3 weeks or so and then they build you back up.

Cuz all the weak ppl go to Jackson thinking its easier. Then they just give up anyways and try getting chaptered out.

If you were involved in sports or phiysicaly active you'll have no problem, its all mind games, attention to detail, and teamwork. If I where you I would work on 3 mile run, 100 push up in 2 min, 100 sit ups in 2 mins, and 20 pull ups for shiets. BCT = weaksause.

Were u in Bravo Company at Reception? All I can remember is there was a Corporal in charge of us and he looked exactly like Tiger Woods.

I went to E 1/34. Always Forward!

i was in jackson for bct and ait from aug 05-dec05. it aint too hard but it aint easy either. just start running. expect low crawling and high crawling in the sand with your weapon. shit is tougher than it sounds. we got smoked in the field with our gas masks on. we were fkn pissed. u can make it though dont sweat it. hopefully you'll have people that'll write to you. btw i was in E 1/34. Always forward. we had 1SG montoya.

just keep a low profile when you're there. do your best to keep attention off of you. secure your wall locker, shave, shower, no smart ass remarks. make sure you can pass your pt test before you leave. dude it was always some mainland dumb**** who doesn't understand that once they signed the contract and got on that plane, that the u.s. owns their ass. it will always be the people that make it harder than it has to be. they had the worst attitudes and the whole platoon got punished for it. guarantee you're gonna meet a lot of different characters. hopefully you'll have decent chicks in your company. :)

I was there from Jan 06 to early April 06 before heading off to OCS.

The emphasis is to train you, and prepare you for combat you will see in Iraq and Afghanistan instead of breaking you down and building you up.

There is nothing hard about it, it just gets old real fast and the stupid kids will be the hardest thing.

I went through at age 28.

I went to Ft. Jackson in May 2000.

It IS co-ed so you will be able to see females, but that is ALL you can do is SEE. If you get caught fraternizing of course a Drill Seargent will come down on you.Near the end of the cycle, one of the guys from 4th Platoon boned one of the girls in my platoon in the barracks while everybody was downstairs cleaning equipment; he must've been desperate 'cause she didn't look that good.

It gets VERY hot in South Carolina the HEAT will get to you. They emphasis drinking water ALL the time.
