soooo, i was going to change the fuel pump today....:smoke:
began by taking 1/3 of the exhaust and shields off, then the track/tie bar and brace, then i jacked up the car even more, at which point i realized i can't get the tank out unless i remove the REAR AXLE!!! :furious:
i tried, but it didn't work. :wtf: :shakesfist:
:read: why did GM make these cars this way?
if there was a GM executive near me right now, i'd kick him in the nuts several times. :furious:

you know, you might be right. i was gonna swap the axles anyway (to the all wheel discs). thankfully i've worked on cars i never had to go through this bullsh*t with. i mean, look at this....this is how you are supposed to take the engine out :wtf: :wtf:

they say its easy, there's a lot of stuff to take apart.....we'll see about that. :smoke:
i'm trying to figure out how to raise the car high enough, at home, without building a garage like the one in these photos. :eek4:

FWD!? :nono:
hahahahahaha :wtf:
:shakesfist:
IF you jack the rear really high, and disconnect the shocks and let the axle swing all the way down (yes, disconnect the torque arm also) you should be able to get it out.

ha! cool. i'll try that, i didn't think that would work....i guess the key is jacking it high enough so the diff can drop down far enough to weasel the tank out of the hole. :pirate1:
why didn't they use the removable neck and rubber seal? woulda been much easier.
Or you can accept my offer of $100 for the car "as-is" *ducks*

whaaaaat? :faint: the tow to my house cost me $160!!!
i plan to wrench it this weekend (i'm gonna try what you said), when i start on the swapping, keeping track of all the parts is going to be tough, i have very little space left at my place as it is.
i can't decide if i should run a V6 or a V8.....i love V8's and i've had a few V6's that were handsdown crap. i've noticed some guys on the mainland are running pretty sweet with those 3.8L SeriesII motors. i think there's a demand for performance mods with today's gas prices. and then you can't beat a good ol' 350 even though its the LT-1 and seemingly outdated.....
its supposed to be a multi-purpose street legal car, what do you think about the V6 vs V8?

V8. Unless it's turbo-charged, there's no reason to have a V-6 in a Camaro. :gapteeth:

you might be right, look at this supercharged version, its kinda funny lookin' :wtf:

Oh hell... just find a wrecked LS1 powered 'Maro or 'Bird and use THAT as a donor.

ok, some guy says his 3.8L runs 13's with these simple things:
3.73 gears
jet chip stage III
cold air intake
exhaust
75 shot nitrous
do you believe that?
i can't seem to find a JET stage "III" chip in the Summit catalog.

as far as the right way to take out an engine no but its the easier way as well as to work on the engine. sometimes its not worth the stuggle.
Reminds me of work and at home :)

if you need a brand...Rotary Lifts my favorite to work on...and get the asymmetric lifts so you can open the doors a bit wider.

Yeah brah Fuel Pump chages in a 3rd/4th Gen Camaro are a major pain in the ass. Its such a pain that you'll find alot of people actually remove the carpet and cut out a square in the floor behind the rear seats and fab up a swing door. Not legal in some racing series/classes but alot of people do it on their DD. So if they ever gotta change the pump again all you gotta do is pull up the carpet instead of dropping the rearend. But for the first time replacement, gonna have to drop it either way. Don't worry though, you can still leave the control arms attached, just get the rear of the car really high. The reason the engine drops out the bottom of the car instead of being pulled out of the top on a 4th gen is because of the way the engine is positioned. Its pretty close to being under the windshied, way further back than it is on the 1st through 3rd gen F-body. Its definately weird to see, but its worth it as far as weight distribution and placement. To put it back together I would say stick with the LT-1 if you already have a LT-1. Yeah they're older technology but they can still be built to be potent. But if you don't have a motor, yeah LS1 would be a good choice. And another note, never trust any off-the-shelf ECM chip, no matter what "stage" it claims. The best chip is one tuned for your specific setup, no universal chip tune is going to be as good.
