Okay, with a lot of uptight HT members voicing opinions and exchanging great dialogue about issues that affect us everyday, and for our future, I wanted to know....
With others that I talk with here on island, especially about Native Hawaiian issues and development here, when they say their part and air out their concerns, I follow up with a simple question;
"Did you vote in the last election?" , or, "Are you going to vote in the upcoming elections?"
I'm shocked as to how many people tell me, "No." The reasons they give are even more disheartening and petty.
Sometimes I think that if everyone who indeed had a beef with current government and said "my vote wouldn't count", actually DID vote, we'd have a different political climate than we currently have now.
So; Are you registered, do you vote, and are you going to vote? Inquiring minds want to know.
EDIT: I was going to add a "Doesn't matter, I'm going to rule my own banana republic someday" option, but decided against it. While we're still USA citizens, people.

Yes, I vote... And I strongly believe that one of the main reasons why we as a society are led by the minority, is because we forget to take the personal responsibility to do our civic duty... One of those duties is to vote...

Yepz, sure do. It's the only way to let these people know what's up...the only measurable way at least.

I vote, but I don't complain enough.
I remember when Bulai'a ran for Governor, one of my co-workers told me "whoever votes for him is only wasting a vote". But Bulaia ended up with something like 5,000 votes. That alone made me realize my co-worker was a fool. That was 5,000 votes that said they were tired of the same-old people in office, the current government as it was, and saw no alternative candidate worthy of their vote.
That was 5,000 votes that could have helped someone else win the election...
hmmmm........:really:

Any vote against the Grand Oil Party is a good vote in my book. The only problem is that the Democratically controlled congress is doing only a minor fraction of what they said they would. Ugh. We need a viable 3rd party in the US. The grabs for power by the Republican executive branch have been pretty terrifying these past 8 years. Any actually read the "Patriot Act?" There's some scary shit in there.
Saw a quote recently and I wish I knew who to properly credit it to. "When facism comes to America it will be wrapped in a US Flag and carrying a bible." Hell, I say it's already here.
Edit - Of course I have my own opinions, but that's what's good about the country. You *can* have differing opinions. Voting is good. Yes, I want you to vote for "My" people, but hey - as long as you vote that's good enough for me.

this is a free country, we are entitled to our opinions...that's what makes America so great. I agree the patriot act is scary...the unbridled powers it allows is incredible...but then so is habeas corpus/martial law but we never utilized in the same way they were done before.
Lets not forget it was a Democrat President FDR that inprisoned hundreds of thousands of Japanese-American citizens in concentration camps, many who lose their homes, livelihood, and were humiliated. Executive Order 9066. He also ordered martial law in America....far more sweeping powers than the Patriot Act could ever offer.
It took a Republican President (Reagan and Bush Sr) who apologized and made reparations for the 120,000 Japanese-Americans who suffered under EO 9066.
Bush inprisoned 400 foreigners.

You keep on wavin that flag. Apparently Jingoism is in style.
Bush also took us from the largest budget surplus to the worst deficit in something like 2 years. Not to mention started an illegal war and got thousands of American and other service persons killed. Where are those WMDs that you Flag Wavers so valiantly based your case on?
If you want to play "your guy did worse in history" then you've just buried your head in the sand. Wrapped in a flag of course.

What exactly do you have against our country's flag, Latka? Last I checked, it represents America, every state in the nation, and the blood spilled for its independence, not any one political party.

Thank you....I will keep on waving this flag....:patriot:
All war's are illegal, unjustified and immoral. I have never heard of a legal, justified or moral war. Ever.
Our defense budget and war spending is not why we are in debt. We are mostly in debt thanks to Democrat social welfare policies. You can add up the Revolutionary War, Civil War, WW2, Vietnam, Korea, Gulf War 1&2, Afghanistan, etc....even adjust for real dollars (not nominal) and it still wouldn't compare to the debt creating nightmare of Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid and other Democrat sponsored social welfare programs.
Ha ha we havent even seen the Social Security & Medicare nightmare yet. That one is gonna happen very soon, just a few more years. Wave bye bye to your paycheck when the deductions go up 10x. And please thank a Democrat President Mr. F.D.R. when you see your paycheck in 2020. Thank him and then look back in hindsight at how brilliant Bush Jr was when he proposed modifying Social Security and fighting hard not to let the Democrats create universal healthcare.:eek9:

Words of a great Republican: "If by 'jingoism' they mean a policy in pursuance of which Americans will with resolution and common sense insist upon our rights being respected by foreign powers, then we are 'jingoes'." Teddy.
