Brother has been busy ... maybe he'll pass Chronic588!
I said maybe ... :icon_mrpurple:
He's my calculator. (Click my RPG Stats (http://www.hawaiitalks.net/rpg.php?userid=367) link.)
I'm at work, but my computer at home is busily killing monsters for me. I'm not trying to build an RPG superman, I just want the money to feed my gambling addiction.

what? ur using a script file?
that's it I'm using one too....:)
You will kick yourself for not having done it earlier. The RPG is very easy to automate. All you really have to do is click "Submit" and "Proceed" over and over. There's very little decision-making involved.
I gotta admit, I'm a little surprised at how effective it is. I woke up this morning 120K points richer and 20 levels higher than I went to sleep.

umm....but das cheating dude! :(
its like botting in MMORPG...but yes I am kicking myself for not doing it earlier. I bot tonight! :D
I can hit 5000 battles in 1 day....I was using a packet sniffer and found a way to jump in and send additional packets to make the server think I am doing multiple battles simultaneously.:naughty:
But I kid...I wont do that...in respect of the great admin Mike...:onyerknees:
umm....but das cheating dude! :(Why is that cheating?

Why is that cheating?
It's considered botting. Using automated scripts to play a game for u is considered botting and in est, cheating. heh
Hmm.... ok. I will assume, then, that there is an implied "no botting" rule here.
I guess I'm not hip with MMORPG attitude toward this kind of thing, but I can see why it'd be that way. (I purposely stay far away from MMORPGs because I know I'd get addicted.) I come from the planet of UNIX admins, and Total World Automation is our mantra. I guess it's just a habit. I'll delete my character and think of a fun way to dump the 120K I earned.
No harm, no foul -- right Mike?
I would like to point out, however, that I did give some thought into how acceptable it would be before writing my script. I mentioned it in this post (http://www.hawaiitalks.net/showthread.php?p=123381#post123381) and implied it in this one (http://www.hawaiitalks.net/showthread.php?p=123796#post123796), but nobody made any comment. The more I thought about it, the more I thought it would be okay -- especially given the Republican slant this forum seems to have.
Republicans are almost always libertarians (they strongly believe in the concept of individual liberty), and a true libertarian would have to agree that if I have the capability to improve my situation and it doesn't hurt anyone, I should have that liberty. A "no botting" rule sounds a little socialist to me.

I say, if anything is in doubt...always ask directly, instead of implying or hinting around in other threads.
I will ask that you refrain from using the script till Mike can address this.
Thanks!

What he said...you can loose it in texas holdem or win even more!!!

Lesson learned, and I will make sure to be more clear about any questionable intentions in the future. I already deleted my character, and I don't plan to use the script again. I plan to give away the 120K my script made -- I'm just trying to think of a fun way to do it. Blowing it in the casino is what I was intending to do with it in the first place, so that wouldn't be fair.

Heh honestly I don't really care...so long as ur not using ur powers to kill other people or boasting hey look at me i'm teh highest winnarz (like most botters do) then I don't care.

I'd really like for the scripting stuff to stay off the forum. I'd like to think that everyone here plays from the honor system.
I can't prevent anyone from doing a script, but honestly, it's not much fun to compete against people that have gotten their stats up like that. I know you mean well, zff, but your abilities with computers is a little bit higher than some of the regular crew.

Why would you want to bot anyway? There's no point in playing the game if you're going to have your computer play for you. That takes the whole experience out of it.

Ah let him keep his spoils...he found a flaw in the RPG....;)
there is a way to prevent scripting...alot of online RPG's use a random sequence of screens so they are not the same and also move the commands around a bit.
but then were are getting too technical...and defeats the fun factor of the RPG....:(
still let Zff keep his 120k....;)
He is after all an HP-12C business calculator.
Although the 10BII is better.:whippa:

besides...I think half the ppl in this thread alone know how to write script files....:naughty:

Sorry that I made this thread and screwed your system, but I thought there was a serious gamer online. One day never was anywhere on the list and next thing "BAMM!" second place!

Oh and too bad I don't know how to do that...write scripts...

I'm glad that i am computer illiterate. You can bet that I dont know what this script shit is, because if I knew I would be doing it.

Zff if you feel really bad you can give your spoils to the Republican Clan, taxing the rich is what we do.

There's nothing I can do about scripting, and people cheating...I just don't have the resources to combat that sorta thing. It's a moral choice others will have to make. I think the Peer group alone will provide the proper moderation for this...as seen in this thread.
This place is all about having fun...as long as you're not going off and boasting I'm the bestest in the world, using it to rape the system (like buying the high priced and rare stuff in the Itemshop), etc...then it doesn't hurt TOO much. But I'd still rather have everyone do the honor thing, and just work it the way it's intended.
Oh, and I'd like to say that I'm neither Rep or Dem...heh...or anything else. :D
idiosyncratic
10-20-2007, 08:45 AM
but being anything else... is fun.
.
j/k.
.
scripting is for lazy people like me.
although my honor trumps that :(
stupid honor. :gapteeth: lol.

u could always donate some of those points to the top 10 guys on the hall of fame
My apologies Mike, I never thought it would become an issue. To be honest, I didn't think anyone would even notice. My plan was to earn some points, delete my character, and go back to the casino. Maybe do it again if I didn't do so good in the casino. :)
I never intended to challenge anyone, join a clan, compete for "top character" or whatever, and I never tried to hide the fact that I wrote a bot. If I had tried any of those things, I can see how it would be cheating and dishonorable. I also understand that it takes the fun, the challenge and the experience out of it, but I was never seeking those things in the RPG. I did it for the casino. To me, the RPG is just a way to earn points for the casino. I would never write a script to play in the casino because I'd much rather do that myself.
I discovered that killing easy monsters over and over in the RPG is a reliable way to earn points for the casino, but it takes time and I found it mind-numbingly boring and repetitious -- so I automated it. Automating things on a computer is basically what I do for a living, so it's a strong tendency of mine. The RPG is very repetitious, and it's the kind of thing that's very easy to automate. I almost couldn't help myself.
My biggest problem with what I did -- aside from causing yet another unintended headache for Mike -- is that automating the RPG took all the fun out of the playing the casino. My script effortlessly made more money in the RPG in one night than I made struggling everyday in the casino since it opened. :(

Yeeeah...it's alright, man. No worries...lol...I've known about these things for awhile. Hacks and stuff like that do kinda take the joy out of it.
In a way, I can do the same thing really, only I just plug in the numbers for what I want. It's honestly not fun for me...so I keep a running total of what I have in my account, and I always reset it back to that after working on the forums or testing the games, etc.
It's just more fun...heh.

dude...let zff keep his 120k....:(
I think he needs it...he has already admitted Mike has got him hooked on the casino. Zff has no other means of HT income to satisfy his gaming bug.
Mike has surreptitiously got us all hooked on HT...its stronger than crack cocaine!

btw....what scripting progam do you use? I am working on a similar system to implement for accounting programs. I am trying to figure out a way to automate the entire accounting process.
So far I've been able to copy paper documents via scanner into PDF then ocr specific fields and insert them into the database. Then on specific dates and times the program does other tasks such as cut checks, reconcile accounts by itself...etc.
In the end I hope to have one super automated program that can do the entire tasks of a big corporate accounting dept and squeeze it down so I can do it by myself....replacing 1000 people with just me and several dozen computers.:D
People think I am insane when I tell them one day I will figure out a way to replace downtown Honolulu and its 50,000 office workers with a single computer and just 1 operator who can do all the jobs of those people....
Hmm... perhaps I shouldn't talk about this publically. I'll send you a PM.
