I'm John Karamatsu...I drink and drive...vote for me.
I also skip Waipahu board meetings that discuss drinking and driving problems...because well I was out drinking then later driving.

Very bad if you're a public figure!

a political figure who votes for stricter DUI laws and skips community board meetings discussing DUI problems...should be treated more harshly then regular citizens. He should get the maximum sentence.
Or this will just leave the precedence that politicians get special privilege and can break the laws.

No, it just might set the precedence that politicians don't have to follow what they say. Get special privileges and can sweep the real issues under the table...
Oh wait!
They do that already!

too bad the house wasn't in special session for the ferry.

I know alot of people drink and drive. And alot of people also have DUI's on their record.
But what upsets me about Karamatsu is he wont plead guilty to DUI. He is going to fight it in court and try to weasel out of it. That is why I dont like him. If he admits he did it and just pleas no contest then okay...fine, case closed move on.
But what is disgusting is he will try to get it dismissed. :nono:

he needs to run for gov, or mayor, so he can have his own driver, and then drink as much as he wants

I don't recall what news station it was but did you happen to catch the part where he was claiming he has problems with his car? He said the accelerator gets stuck and his car bogs so he has to give it a little bit more but it so happens that his car broke loose and the wheel turned towards the median because the car isn't aligned or something like that. :tired:

HONOLULU -- The state House began a special session on Wednesday designed to get the Hawaii Superferry back in business with several leadership moves.
The Democratic leadership announced Rep. John Riki Karamatsu stepped down from his position as vice speaker. Karamatsu was arrested after crashing his car earlier this month. He tested more than double the legal limit for DUI in a breathalyzer test, police said.
House Speaker Calvin Say also announced that he will recuse himself from the issue of the Superferry. Say's son works for the Hawaii Superferry.
Rep. Blake Oshiro will be acting House Speaker during the session.
The Senate is also taking up pending appointments as required by law.
Gov. Linda Lingle called the special session to find a way to keep the Hawaii Superferry running while a required environmental assessment is conducted.
At the same time, the Senate is conducting a hearing to gather more views on the Superferry legislation, and the House plans another hearing on Thursday.

ha ha...not good...if that is true....I am even more dissapointed in him. Dude...he needs to be a man and not a little punk kid. His whining is an embaressment to himself and the Democratic Party of Hawaii.
Quit whining. You did something wrong, fess up and take the punishment like a man. Then learn from it and move on.

i wasn't surprised that he stepped down today. one of my friends told me they saw my dad on television saying he should step down :hihi:
well at least he stepped down. or was it a letter of resignation, period, that i saw tonight on the news?
Blake Oshiro is my cousin--don't rag on him too much mmmkay :D

He only stepped down during this special session. The regular session starts in January of 2008. At that time, he can be appointed/elected to the same vice speaker position.
I had seen a news clip this morning on KHON w/him explaining his side of what happened. It was just like what MsStang808 had explained above.

I should record that, and if i get a speeding ticket, play it back in court, explaining that my car's accelerator gets stuck, and thats why i speed. i have no choice.

... His whining is an embaressment to himself and the Democratic Party of Hawaii.
How can you say that... There is nothing that can embarrass the Hawaii Dems... You know that his DUI was Lingle's fault, right...

ha ha....I await the Democrats to use the Superferry fiasco and blame it on Lingle during the next governor race.
And the sad thing is...people will believe them. Most people are so confused on wtf is going on with superferry they would be willing to scapegoat her and the GOP.:(
All they need to see is the difference between how the prostestors treated lingle at her meeting with them and the 8 senators who met with them later.

To be honest, if you don't crash, weave, or go through a checkpoint, cops here are fairly leinent on DUI's...
I've known a lot of people who have been let off.
as for Lingle.
Grow some balls and make the hard decision to keep the ferry no matter what.
It's times like this where i miss people like fasi in govt.
HI-5o
10-25-2007, 07:36 PM
As for Lingle...?
As for the Democraps... They need to grow some balls and say, "YES! I voted for the SF before and I'm voting for the SF again!"
No, they go and hide behind the DOT and Lingle... it's *POINT FINGER* the GOP's fault... :angryfire:
Look at the record... look at how they voted... read the resolution that the Senate and House PASSED 2 years ago in support for the SF...
Bah!:furious:

Ha ha if I had the money I would take out a full page ad and plaster what you posted earlier about the voting record of each of the Democrats and their comments about SF from a few years ago.:D
oh wait...youtube....:naughty:

Since when are public officials held accountable in hawaii, in anywhere?

In July, I went to Las Vegas with my friends. The highlight was watching Celine Dion perform and winning $300 in $25 minimum bet black jack at the Playboy Club at the Palms Hotel.
