I don't know how much you guys are into exotic cars, but I went on a cruise today with a few. We also got to check out one guy's private collection. I have lots of pics, but I'll just post a few for now. If you guys want more, let me know and I'll post them.

Yeah, that's Makakilo.

There was no Enzo there. There was a black F430 (which looks like an Enzo from the back) and a red F50.

Yeah, that's Makakilo.

Wow, what a good eye! I drive up and down that section at least 4 to 8 times a day and I didn't catch it.

zff, nice photos! Reminds me of the J&N track day a while back. Let's see some more shots of the beautiful cars! BTW, kind of slow, but I finally caught on to the WMI designation.

That's what it was . . . the red F50. Long time ago my favorite exotic was the F40, mainly because it was twin turbo charged. The Renault Alpina V6 twin turbo was one also. Lotus Espirit too, again because of the giant turbo attached to the four banger.

What was those cars doing in Makakilo?

We were just making sure the group didn't get split up.

Here we are pulled over on the side of the street in Makakilo:

This is a 512BB, one of my favorite Ferraris of all time. It's got a 5L horizontally-opposed 12. This particular one was one of the most awesome-sounding cars I've ever heard. It sounded carbureted... throaty with that wonderful gurgling and popping under engine braking. The idle was a little lopey, so it might've had aftermarket cams (but then my 308 has stock cams, and there's a slight lope to the idle). It also had aftermarket exhaust... it was LOUD.

This is a 456GTA, one of the most un-Ferrari Ferrari's you'll ever see. It's a 4-seater with an automatic transmission. I'm not talking about an F1 paddle-shifted tranny, I'm talking about a PRND21 slushbox. Still a pretty car in person, though.

Lotus Elise. This car belonged to the tallest guy there. :) The owner said he was surprised at how well his car could keep up with the Ferraris on the freeway.

One of the cool things about an F50 is the way you can see the carbon fiber thru the paint....

Wow, wow, wow! Thanks for posting all of the pics.

That is some "garage" for the cars! I love the gunmetal Dino (rear shot)! I thought my neighbor's gatlin-gun lift garage was cool but this one has much nicer cars.

It's a shame none of these cars ever made it to the track...that F50 would have been awesome to see!

Absolutely fantastic post!

Holy jeezmus! Those are some awesome pix! Those are simply beeeauuutifoool cars! That Ford GT is awesome, too!I don't know if you can tell from the pics, but the original Ford GT40 is only about 4/5ths the size of the new GT.

Zff - I noticed the carbon fiber weave showing through on the F40 that I saw at the exotic show a few years back. Way cool. I'd say that's nice and thin paint. :)

So... Ferrari, Ferrari, Ferrari, Ferrari...Lotus, Ferrari. The Elise is a cool car, but I don't think I could call it an exotic. As for the guy being tall, I can tell ya one thing for certain - he wasn't 6'6"! I got stuffed into an Elise and almost couldn't get out. :D

Been seeing more Ferraris around town. Nice to hear something other than the constant drone of 4 bangers. Never really been a Ferrari guy (they sure are nice to look at though!)...but man that noise they make is sex on wheels. I could become a convert if some nice soul was to arrange a ride. ;)

Looks like a white GT40 in one of the photos. I believe my naughty stick is tingly now. (Edit - White GT and blue GT40!)

I would *love* to photograph some of those Ferraris (and others). The lines of exotic cars are usually...exotic! :)

zff
11-21-2006, 08:25 AM
Yeah, I love the sound of that 512. It was also the loudest car there by far.

The Bimmer was a Euro-spec 650i. The guy who was driving it just brought it back from Germany. He also had a Ferrari sitting at home, but because of a recent injury, he couldn't drive a stick. His Bimmer was plenty fast, though. He said it had 400hp and it sure looked like it.

Latka
11-21-2006, 09:34 AM
The 6 series are big battle wagons, that's for sure. I doubt I'd classify them as exotic though. ;) A Z8 maybe...but a plebian 6 series? :D

Looks like you guys had fun. I liked the walk-through of that incredible collection. I can only hope that the cars are actually being driven!

zff
11-21-2006, 03:25 PM
He told me he starts them up at least once a month, but he's usually too busy to drive them. They all have current tags, so obviously they're driven at least once a year to get safety inspected. He probably has a guy to do it for him.

Damn, that must be a nice job.

There are lots of downsides to having an exotic too. People aren't shy to go out of their way to prevent you from changing lanes or not allowing you to merge.

I pulled up at a stoplight once, and I heard the passenger in the car next to me say something like "look, Ferrari" to the driver. I glanced over, smiled, and gave a friendly wave. To this, the guy answers back "F*ck you! You think you're bad because you have a Ferrari? F*ck you!" Geez.

One of the Ferrari guys was at a stoplight and a bicyclist ran into his car and broke his windshield. (The cyclist wasn't hurt too bad.) Passer-by's were yelling "good for you" and "serves you right for buying a Ferrari" at the Ferrari owner.

Then, of course, there's the pricing. My 308, for example, uses the same calipers as certain models of Volvo, but $100 Volvo parts are EXACTLY the same as $400 Ferrari parts. Distributor caps are like $300 each for my car, and I have two. That's just for the CAPS! Too bad I can't source those elsewhere.

There are a lot worse stories over at Ferrarichat. I find most people are friendlier than normal to a Ferrari owner, but every once in a while, you have to deal with some major assholes.

Sweet cars! I'm tempted by the F430 myself, not that much of an "exotic" but still a sweet car. Just need to save a "few" $$$ (give me about 20 years) for both the up front costs and the problems I'll be paying to fix every 3k miles or so (typical Ferrari.) :p

The closest thing to an exotic at my house is my dad's 1970 corvette. It's on a lift in my garage, but my dad is still restoring it. It is drivable though. I'll have to snap a few pics the next time he works on it. I just wish he hadn't registered it as a classic so I could drive it. :burnoutgif:

Ugh... yeah, I've seen the asshole behavior to a lesser extent when I used to cruise with my buddy in his Porsche 911. People are just... idiots for the most part.

Buttholes.

While I may not want to *own* a Ferrari, I can certainly appreciate the way they look and the sound they make. I think if I owned one I'd be too worried about some jackass keying it or something like that.

...and how come your 308 is the only "old" car out there? Jeez - looks like it should be the 360 club. :D Old cars are the hotness!

Fawk. That thing has like 600+HP right? V12? That's insane. :sadpace:Yeah, 612hp, according to Ferrari. It has the same engine as the 650hp Enzo basically, but the intake is more restrictive since it had to clear the hood.
