Alright, I don't know that much about cars (joined to help with the RPG), but my dad had a BMW, 360 series, and he loved it probably more than his own son. :cry3:
He said BMWs are good for control and steering and such, but I heard from a friend that they were made purely as show cars. :photo:

Can you guys post some things that BMWs are good with? Or is it purely a showcar like my friend said? :rally_drive:

bimmers have amazing handling. nuff said. they got a crazy trning radius too.. not the most powerful, normally..unless you spring for the xpensive models.. well engineered, but nowdays the quality is supposedly going down..some american cars are ranked higher than bmw, mercedes, vw..etc..

but its a overall nicely engineered car.

me, i dont care for the price so much so id rather get a diff car, but i totally see why people like it.

i do like the older M3 models tho.. then again theyre super xpensive.

Its a German car so its an overall good car for everything. Its above average in everything from stability at high speeds, handling, comfort, luxury, power, breaking, and safety. You pay that much for a car that's had all these researches done for it to be the way it is. I think it's worth it.

Honestly, if I had to choose, I'd rather see my mom drive a German car than a Camry, maxima, or american car. To know that the car has that much features in it would make me feel better about someone important to me driving on the road. Of course its not the perfect car, but...its better than average.

I wouldn't buy one for myself tho. Maybe when I'm older but BMW wouldn't be my first choice.

Alright, so far I've got that it's a bit over average, but mainly good in handling and so forth like my dad said.

Thanks for the info so far guys.

BMW's are for image...people buy them as a status symbol. Nuff said...the blue/white logo is like any other symbol of ostentation.:D

any car does the job. Camry's are excellent cars. So are Accords..

just not Nissans. Nissan sucks giant donkey dick.:nono:

Hah, yeah my BMW is great at breaking! It's broken spectacularly at the track many times! :freak6:

But really, its a different level of car. I wouldn't say all german engineering is wonderful (i.e. modern VW...), but BMW has a different standard.
You can't really compare it to an Accord or Camry. Those are reliable FWD people movers. A BMW is a solid RWD car built from a long series of refinements in both street cars and racecars, which have been proven to take a serious beating while outperforming many expensive sportscars.
They build amazingly engineered engines that win tons of awards, and they've been refining them for generation after generation. Hell, the most powerful Formula1 engine ever used (~1500hp by some estimates) used the same engine block as the 4 cylinder in my car, but with some mods (80 psi of boost...)
My 4-banger isn't amazingly powerful, but its well-engineered, and can take a serious beating. I've got between 200K and 300K on the stock block, and I regularly take it way past the redline with no rev-limitier, and the motor just won't die.
If you think BMW is just a status symbol, then you don't really understand what driving is about, and you should stick with a cheap practical car. It's sad to see so many BMWs driven by people that don't know how to drive them. They never see how well it can go thru a corner, or how well the engine will rev.
Personally, i don't think they make very pretty cars. They built their reputation on having a spors car hiding inside an awkward looking boxy car. They still make awkward and plain looking cars. The main reason people think they look good is all the reputation behind the name.

Now, BMW isn't what it used to be. Like all cars, they've continuously added on all kinds of extra luxury crap and extra weight and electronic crap like iDrive. They've also had a few structural flaws, which are dissappointing.
I've driven some modern BMWs and ridden in a few, and they feel dull and lifeless compared to my '74. But, they're still one of the best options available compared to all the other crap on the market. If you go for an older BMW, you're gonna get a simpler and more fun car than the new heavy complicated ones. But as with any car, the older you go, the more chance of having to do repairs. If you can do you your own work, its no problem at all. But if you pay mechanics, its gonna be painful.

it's a total car... performance and feel. rwd is the shiznit!!! i'd own one again. used to have a e39 6 speed sport back in colorado... it was too much car for oahu. it needed to roam freely on mainland highways... there's a pic of it and one of my high speed runs (colorado has lots of empty interstate/highway straights early, early in the AM) on my myspace... you could never pull this off on oahu without possibly hurting more than yourself... way too many peoples driving and traffic officers patroling all times of the day/night.

if you want a to take/fix your car zero times by the dealer/yourself, get a rwd lexus...

as with most euros, they go to the shop enough to freak out peeps that moved from cars like /totoya/lexus/nissan/infinity...

one of my friends has a 2002 330i and a 96 m3. and we beat the hell out of those cars and they just wont break. well... we broke he 330 because we were flying it down this back road and launched the car a little bit and thought we were ok after that then it was like "holy shiet another one" and we launched the car off the ground, all tires and shizz. when we landed all the lights flashed on and off,the headlights the interior light and whatnot and also the deck turned on and off. we broke 1 transmission mount, 1 motor mount and broke part of the exhaust off which somehow made it sound better. but all in all even though i'm not a bmw fan i'll admit those cars can take one hell of a beating

Well apparently my dad's BMW couldn't take the pickup truck to the hood that totaled it. XD

Have you checked the reliability ratings of the current BMWs?
Not as bad as Mercedes, but not that good either.
I'd get one still yet though, great engineering, great styling, awesome handling.
