Isn't your year of vette the one where if it gets too heated up the starter craps out?

Dude...it's a Chevette! ENGINE SWAP, MAN! Otherwise you can forget getting serious power outta that tiny little 70HP engine. My uncle used to have one of these. If you can afford it...which should be pretty cheap. I believe most people swap in V6s...and sometimes V8s in the thing.

This a great resource on that: http://www.angelfire.com/extreme3/v6chevette/

If you're going to drift...to be honest, you don't have to do much to start out with...but with that little bit of HP, it might not be feasible. It's better to start out learning car control than just going nuts on your car and modifying it before you know what you're doing. Then when you're ready, add mods as you go. Honestly, the only thing I think you need, is a nice race bucket, helmet, belts, and a little more HP. You could probably work out a few mods that will help...a better flowing exhaust, mess with your carb, etc.

Here's a list of mods that this guy did to make his Chevette a little more peppy.

Also, make sure you do some searching on the net for forums specific to your car...I found a great resource here:

Good luck with that, and post pix! Welcome to HT!

with 70hp.....all i have to say is dont let off the gas :laugh1: and i hope you're ballsy enough to charge full throttle into a turn. not that im suggesting you go and do that as the only way, especially if you're starting out.

or do what archangelx said and do a swap. that would probably be the best and overall would make things a bit easier

Thanks man for the coment...

ok now i got a friend who has same chevette as i do but this 1 is auto, he had a problem with tha gearbox it seems had some cracks on the union part of the engine and the gearbox (dunno how is it called this part) and some times the car looses the gear or get the overdrive gear when is it not need it.

my question is can change the autogearbox by a 5manual?
if i can do it i have to change tha transmision too or i can made a mod to this one too?
that for my friend.

for me i wondering if can swap an 87' 325i engine in my vette or a toyota 4A GE... both engines came with their gearbox and some friends can sell me the transmision for both.

all that i have to do it's try to fit them into my vette...

I'd assume that any car that came in manual and automatic can be swapped out...you just have to find out what needs to be replaced or added in. Usually, you remove more than you put in when you're making the swap from auto to manual...so it should most likely be easier.

I'd go for the engine swap plus transmission...you're going to have to do it anyways if you swap engines!

you can throw in whatever engine you want to, but your just limited by your personal skills in making it fit right. You gotta get a transmission bell housing that will match up with your engine (reason for sticking with combo), the shifter in there and working properly (linkages and lining up with shifter hole?), hydraulics for the clutch, a driveshaft that will connect to your differential (needs to be proper length, which may be tough coming from a car with a different wheelbase), or if you use a different differential you're gonna have to figure out a way to mount it.
In figuring out how to get the 325i engine in there, you're gonna need some good engineering and welding skills.

The easiest way is to go with a tried and true engine swap, which others have done and can tell you the parts necessary to make it work. Perhaps there are kits available onle.
If I remember right, a 3.8L V6 works very nicely in a Chevette (from a T-Bird, Mercury Cougar, etc.) But you'll have to check around online to see whats necessary to adapt something.

thx man!!!

Indeed i know a friend who swap a ford sierra 300 saphire engine in his vette, works very well but i don't like it much that engine it's too tricky for maintance and got some eletrical problems... goes like a bullet but this little problem thay could become a real pain in the ass...

I'd say 2.3 Turbo T-bird/SVO mustang motor/trans would do that light car a lot of justice...
