I find these very important. I'm going to keep a few copies of two of the PFD files I found from that site in my camera bag.

I actually had to look for this information when I started taking pics of old muscle cars on private property (from the sidewalk). It's good for people to know anyway.

i need this for the next time the rent a cop thinks hes cool and he can take my camera away or tells me to get off public property..( public street)

Also check that out. Very basic but good forms to have on hand. You NEED a release for any identifiable persons in your photographs if your photo is ever published (not including news media)

Before you get sassy, you might want to check the property line on the street. Lots of buildings downtown have them - little tags in the sidewalk that denote where their property starts / ends.
I would NOT surrender my camera though. I would only do that if a proper law enforcement officer directed me to, and then I would ask them why they were doing that. We do have a constitutional protection against unreasonable search and seizure.

Property line or not I think if you're on a public sidewalk, it's public property. Even if they technically own it, if there's a public side walk there, it's public property. It's like having esements and crap idk it's all technical and blah blah blah.
In any case the only time i'd give up my camera is to an MP (military popo). Because they'd just shoot my ass if i said no.
