it does look like they used the s2k spoon hatch as reference...
i think a miata hatch was built for sema a couple year ago.
edit: found it, but only a rear 3/4 view...

haha I would try it, but I ran out of car project money. It is removable and attaches to the stock hardtops.
That miata from the sema show - that was a real production mazda! they just never made it out of the few prototypes.. :(
