There was a story in Hawaii Business News about the stadium needing more repairs to the sum of 25 million per year for the next five years or it will have to close:nopity: . This is a public stadium that was paid for and maintained by taxpayer monies for the past 30 years. If we had one percent of what the state has been spent on and plans to spend on the Aloha Stadium we'd have the safe and up do date facility needed to put on the local events currently run at Hawaii Motor Sports Center. Please keep your eyes open for any talk about this subject and lets keep this issue alive. I'm all for a rally around the stadium to get some exposure for our plight is anyone else in?:burnout:

That's a VERY good idea Chris. We need news coverage, and that's definetly one way to go about it!

Here's a story from the Pacific Business News : "Officials toss ball to Lingle to get stadium repair money" (http://www.bizjournals.com/pacific/stories/2006/02/13/focus5.html)

It would be nice if they could appropriate some funding for stadium repairs and then build an integrated road race circuit in / around the existing stadium parking lot.

I can understand the state using tax money for the stadium, events like the Hula Bowl and Pro Bowl and various concerts bring in money into our economy...the term spending money to make money comes to mind. The stadium is an attraction...and having people coming from other states or nations, coming and give us their money...does have an effect on our economy. Having a racetrack built by the state MIGHT have the same effect IF the track can match the revenue that the probowl brings in or the stadium's events combined. I write that because the State only looks at themselves (most of the time) and only look at how things benefit them. At least if the State builds us a racetrack...it will be properly maintained.
