It's that time again...to show the legislative branch that Oahu motorsports enthusiasts matter! That we have a say!

http://www.raceeventshawaii.com/Assets/Images/capitolrally.jpg

The Capitol Rally is still on, but has been changed to April 9th from 11AM till 1PM @ the State Capitol. Set up time will be 10AM for a limited number of vehicles that have been pre-chosen. We're asking the rest of us to participate by cruising around the state capitol in a friendly and orderly manner, basically the same thing as last year's huge event:

2005 State Capitol Cruise (http://www.raceeventshawaii.com/Content/Race%20Events%20Hawaii/State%20Capitol%20Cruise/State_Capitol_Cruise_Article.htm)

For those of you that attended last year, you know it was a huge success, and that we had an overwhelming turnout. Let's do it again! Shoe polish your supportive messages on your windshields, make some banners or signs for the press at the rally, bring out your hottest and quickest rides, be it four wheels or two, and help to keep motorsports alive on Oahu.

The entire event will involve promoting the fact that we as motorsports enthusiasts support highway safety...and that means keeping it on the track. Considering that we'll soon be losing our track, this naturally ties in with the support for the new world class facility along with keeping the current track open until the new track is completed.

For most of us on this forum, motorsports is a big chunk of our life, and something we do for the enjoyment we derive from it. We are friends, we are family, and we need to show the state legislature that we matter and that we are important.

Last year was highly successful...let's blow them away by doing it again!

Announcement!

Directly after the rally, @ 2PM, a large majority of the supporters for the World Class Facility will be heading down to Dave & Busters located in the Ward Entertainment Center. We're inviting everyone to join us as we'll be hanging out to talk story, and touch base with everyone that's pushing for this facility. If you have questions, that would be a great time to ask, otherwise, we just want everybody to get together, have a good time, and celebrate motorsports on Oahu.

We'd love to get the chance to get know everyone that supports the WCF...so come on down, have a drink, play some games, and just have a good time. If enough people turn up, we'll most likely have the third floor opened up for us. If you have any questions or concerns, give me a yell at webmaster@hawaiitalks.net

I know I'll be there...I hope to see you there as well.

Thanks!

Is it better to just have a "show of force" at the Capitol; or would it be better if you could submit a signed petition with hundreds / thousands of names to the politicians?

There's the First Hawaiian Auto Show this weekend. Don't the Solo 2 guys and the Porsche Club usually have displays set up at this thing? Maybe you get petition signatures there?

As for the Capitol Cruise, I can bring my R/C drift car and be the first R/C drifter ever at the State Capitol.

All of the above would be nice. :gapteeth:

Is everyone meeting somewhere before going to the capitol, or do we just show up and cut in line as the cars go around the capitol?
I know last year many of us met at Kakaako Park behind the old Hon. Ford.

Welps...I'm an organizer, so I've gotta be there early. There's tons of groups going...what will you be driving? Maybe you can hook up with one of the groups...I know Dirk is meeting at Kakaako Park as well.

Haven't finalized but we'll (MINI club) meet there or at Ward (in front of D&Bs). We are definitely going to show our support at the rally though!

I'll be in my M roady, I'm not sure if the bimmer guys are going or not. I did post up there along with your post, but there isn't any response. I also posted on EFI, & sent Curtis Lee (SCCA SOLO II) an email. I'm sure some of those guys will be going as they did last year.
I'll just use my blinkers and move in line, or get there early and start the line.

The Miata Club "spy" within the Mini Club says Ward for the Minis, so the Miata's will be there too. Not sure how many will show, but at least a few.

Hahahah, yeah Roehrig was giving us the update on the MINI forum too. It'd be cool if we could pull up together at the capital.

Woody, you can always join us at the Ward parking lot (in front of D&Bs) if you like. Looks for pod of Miatas and MINIs.

Something came up, but I'm still going to try and make it. If I do, I won't be there until 11:30 or 12:00.
So I'll just take the Punch Bowl cut off and take a right at King St. and slide into the line. If you see me.....Please let me in!

Some people were asking, who is going to be there from the Legislative body to see this on a Sunday? And if no one is going to be there, how much of an impact will there be?

That's fine, as long as you get there before it ends, and are able to join the crowd, that's a winner! Thanks for supporting us on this.

We are actually performing a press conference for the media at 11:30...even if the legislature is not at the Capitol that day, you can bet there will be a firestorm of media coverage that day, and most likely follow up stories the next day after that.

Now what good legislative member doesn't follow up on their current events? :D

If the turnout is the same as last year, there's no way they'll miss it...we plan to do some meet & greets at the Capitol on Monday, and you can bet I'm going to bring plenty of photos, etc, to show them exactly what happened that day.

It was nice to see some of you guys out there waving signs & driving your cars!
I just added 22.1 miles to my car and used 1/4 tank of gas for 1.45 hr. but it was worth it!
BTW - the course is 1.2 miles long.
