modified DOT lights are no longer DOT legal as far as I know

Can't cover it with anything... plus it renders the reflectors inside the lights useless, so even worse.

you can't do it

well, you can, but you're gonna get tickets, fer shure.

well theyre not modified, just tint films layed on top of the lights. i have a neighbor who has blacked out taillights and tinted headlights and i asked him if he was ever pulled over for it and he says never. so im just wondering if its legal.

Not legal. Adding or removing anything to the head/tail light is considered a modification, including tint.

I was wondering what about the tail lights that are clear like altezza lights that have the clear plastic spray painted a clear red?
I've also seen clear yellow for front on some mainland cars as well. Looks kinda wacked out but yea...People do that.

they should not be altering the lens/light transmittance in any way at all.

to make the car appear nicer. lol. i just like the look of blacked out taillights and tinted headlights. similar effect to a smoked light.

white 96 sentra, blacked out tails, jdm heads, bmw style(double tip) exhaust, rims, lowered. just look for his blue gauges and a big 11k rpm tach under them on his dash.

.... and now your friends going to be pulled over by HI-5o and he's gonna laugh his ass off!

lol! i'd be wary about the tail light tint, everything else is kinda minor... recon for drop, but otherwise you should be fine!

so the light have to have the dot safety, not altered anyway...
damn i wanted to pick up some jdm versions of my head & tails cuz they get a really nice blacked out housing...clear lens but the inside housing part is a matte black...

im pretty sure those would be legal. i see so many cars with jdm lights on the road. black housing with clear lens. i think i might just do that since tinting my lenses would most likely get me citations. i seen a set of jdm lights for 9th gen corolla. black housing taillights, same light positions as the oe part and black housing halo projectors as part of the set.

Be careful with that train of thought. Just because stores sell them, and people use them, doesn't make it legal. Just a friendly warning to help keep you from getting in trouble. :hihi:

ayup. they can sell them, usually with the disclaimer in tiny print that they are for off-road or show use, not legal for use on public roads, or some other variant of such disclaimer.

if a police officer stops you, or when you go to court, the argument that "everyone else is using them" is not going to hold water.

^^ Those aren't JDM. (-__-")

This is a 9th gen Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) Corolla:

Do you see any "black housing halo projectors" on this car? Didn't think so. :boot:

JDM headlights aren't stamped "DOT", whereas most of these riceboy eBay headlights are nowadays. Don't think it matters, as HRS supersedes the federal statutes anyway, afaik. Still headed for Ticketsville if the popo is having a bad night.

i pretty much know everything about the 9th gen aftermarket wise

the 9th gen US style body never made it to japan

that picture above that looks like china or some other asian country but not japan.

the closest to the US 9th gen is from taiwan...
