saw this shady orange tow truck..license plate 4something something, trx (?) i remebered it as 'tricks' ...

driving around w. two guys in the truck, no car in the back (thats the weird part..two guys in a tow truck?! if someone called them, they would need to have an open seat...)

driving 10/15mph scoping the area out...i was in my camaro so when i drove behind them, they slowed down even more, and the driver stuck his head out to check (i think) if my car was a popo- car. back taillights all OFF, headlights on. if i could spot check a car cuz i was a cop, id check them out. just the feeling i got..

so yeah, know anyone with something jacked around that area...lmk.

not to say they were, but they dug out a bit after i was slowly following them..

you need soft blue surf racks
that would scare them on your car

^+1... go get some! heh heh.
.
and next time... call it in! can never be too careful...
just tell the 911/ police dispatch...
"there's a tow truck with two guys cruising around really slowly around the area...
like they're scoping the area... and besides that they have no tailights..."

Hey HI-50? any advice?

there were some cars stolen in the roosevelt/makiki area on the other board, some of them were pretty nice, too. this would explain how they're getting the cars out of there w/o actually breaking into the cars.

It's an old trick, they just tow it and no one asks any questions... I'm always on the lookout for tow trucks driving by my place.

just tell them the same thing. you see a suspicious-looking tow truck.

give them the lic # and the name on the side.

IIRC they're supposed to have identifying company name displayed on the truck

yep. i believe you can report a suspicious vehicle, in much the same way as you can report suspicious persons, perhaps casing a house (kinda like how neighbors call HPD when they see someone breaking into a neighbor's house, or attempting to).

i have no idea what the technical term is (HI-50?) but would it fall under something like "suspicious activity" or something like that?

i *heard* they had to have a company name displayed, but i am not sure about privately owned tow trucks like those used by repo personnel.

i *think* i saw one blacked out truck with the wheel lift mechanism located under the bed, so it does not appear to be a tow truck (it appears to slide out from under the bed in a stored state, rather than be folded up behind the truck in a stored state).

this was a while ago, and it passed me at a pretty good rate of speed, but from what i saw, it had no distinguishing markings, and the wheel lift was installed under the bed, instead of in or behind it.

yeah, it had a company name on it, but it was one of those peel-off sticker type of deals and it looked like a private company.. next time i shall give the popo's a ring.

hope no one got anything jacked around that area or id feel kinda bad.

There's usually a dark blue one in our area doing the same thing...scoping. I think myself and another tennant scared them away one time just for being outside of our building. They were backing up to a car, then saw us...then drove away. This was like 1am after I finished running.
