i was thinkin about pickin one up for 200 bucks. i think it needs some electrical work, and the guy is givin up on it. i can prolly git 'er done.
its primer and ghetto rat-rod looking.

My 83 Yamaha RX50 is fun around town... but I need a bit more than 7hp....

get it! for $200? is it still running?

talked to guy again. yes, it runs, but apparently the carbs tend to flood and you can't run it for like 40 minutes. probably just need to clean and tweak the carbs a little... but there's 4 of em, dammit.

my big concern is i wouldn't drive it enough. its bigger and harder to manage than my 50cc bike, so i probably wouldn't run it around town much.
it'd be way better on the highway, but when i go somewhere via highway... i usually have shit to haul. :(

get it for fun! project.

how many miles does it have on it?

are your gas prices up there as bad as ours?

Sounds like float needles... overhaul the carbs and change the "petcock"

...and change the "petcock"

where can i get that, beavis? uhuhuhuhuh....

i forget on the miles.

Gas is around $4.10 here... The 650 wouldn't get as good of mileage as my 50cc bike, which should get around 70 to 100 MPG. Only gotten 60mpg so far, which involved some gas spillage and carb tuning.

Get it! The old 650's are awesome bikes. Heck, if you don't like it I'll take it off your hands.

Lots of forum support, I can hook you up with there.

hey, how'd you get that 50cc bike? :mopedscoot: very cool. Do you need a motorcycle license there?

I'd say get it, if you're getting a great deal. You could always re-sell after you play with it for a while :) :belokan:

I've had it since I was like 15, and my parents' picked it up. It's a 1983 Yamaha RX50:

I've got a motorcycle permit right now, you just need to take a written test for that. I just can't legally ride without a helmet, or with a passenger, or at night. Sure, I do all of the above though, and nobody's hassled me. I can just keep renewing the permit every 6 months.
Once I get the turn signals and stuff working on the 50, I think I'll just take my maneuverability test and get my permanent license.

I'm kinda hopin my friend will buy the 650 before i can. sure it'd be great... but thats another money drain I don't need right now... if i get it, i probably won't be able to pay for a track day at mid-ohio in august.... :(

:) mine was red/white and then I painted it yellow. :)
the RD350 was it's older brother... and your 50 reminds me of it.
