A question for Mr T regarding the current trend of registering "Supermotards"
"Street-Legal" Dirt bikes that were originally non-DOT compliant...
Some have been registered... as "kit bikes" ?
I heard thru a grapevine source that DMV/MVC would soon be putting a stop to this.
Confirm or deny please... :angeldevil:

like the ducati super motard. that is kinda cool
The Ducati "Hypermotard" is DOT legal and compliant.
The concerrn is the legality of the "conversions"
what the hell is that? i can ask Mr. T when i get home.
pics please...
Lois...
Apparently MVC has been allowing certain "OFF HIGHWAY" VIN'd motorcycles to be reg'd IF they met DOT standasrds for lights, reflectors, etc.
There are aftermarket kits that are sold for these conversions, lights, plate mounts, reflectors, etc.
BUT... AFAIK they arent legal as they are for "OFF ROAD USE ONLY"
There are several DOT compliant from the manufacturer versions... YAMAHA has the WR250X, Suzuki has the DRX400SM, Ducati has the hypermotard 1100S, KTM has one called the Duke too..
But... the concern is the legality of the converted bikes.

oh see those running around waipio all the time they go riding in the valley ....
I'm concerned that the already "legal" bikes will not be legal..., after the owners went through a lot of expense to make them legal persay...
Mr.T said they are fighting against the rescinding of the already-registered ones.
idiosyncratic

but they can't register any new 'kitted' ones? just wondering.
Mr.T said they are fighting against the rescinding of the already-registered ones.
Who's fighting?.... the owners of currently reg'd bikes?...
no, Mr. T and co.
same thing with the special interest vehicles.
it's complicated and probably a lot of stuff would be lost in translation if i ask him the hows and whys and tried to post it here. when we are home i totally forget about asking him stuff like this. you should call him.
I gotta call him... still gotta renew my SC insp cert.
