View Full Version : Thinking of Daytona 675

I've been wanting a bike for years. I've always liked the Yamahas because of the looks. To me, they looked like a cheaper Ducati with the dual headlights when they came out in 98. Ducati are more like dream bikes to me because I wouldn't want to pay for repairs.
Then comes the Triumph Daytona 675. It has the dual headlights I like and so far I've read only good reviews about it so far. Repairs are supposed to be between the cost of a Kawi and Ducati.
Has anybody had any experience with this bike?

Sorry, no info on the 675, but I was just looking at bikes on Craigslist the other day and noticed a guy selling a 955 on Maui.

I also wanted one badly. I had a '02 TT600 which was Triumph's first attempt to a middle weight SS sportbike. I really liked the thing, it handled very nice and it could keep up no problem with other 600's at HRP. The 675 was 2006's bike of the year on a few motorcycle mags, so that should tell you that it's a great bike. Repair wise, when I bought parts for my Triumph they weren't no more expensive than a japanese bike.
Is this your first bike? If it is I would strongly recommend against it. The 675 pretty much behaves like a GSX-R750. Way too much power and torque for a new rider. I'm a strong advocate to start small and move your way up, no shame to ride around a 250. I would first go the the MSF class at LCC, buy me an used ninja 250, ride the hell out of it for 6 months at least and then eventually buy the bike I really want. Don't worry about "wasting" money on a bike you don't want at first, a ninja 250 is a bike you can easily sell for the same price you bought it for, and they're easy to sell as well. Plus you can't put a price tag to what you can learn in such bike, it can literally save your life in the long run because you will be a more skilled rider once you make the jump on a 600 class su per sport.
Good luck!

you need another $2k to get it to handle - the rear shock is garbage, the front needs springs and a revalve.
I'd buy one in a second.

Another thing I heard is that they don't fare too well when crashed. I didn't know that the suspension needed that much work to get them to handle. To my understanding, those had nothing to envy to the Japanese bikes on the handling department.

^ those comparisons are meaningless in the real world. The average joe will not recognize the handling differences of all those bikes, the only thing they can tell is its power delivery. The 600 class is so competitive. That the only thing that should matter to the consumer is the ergonomics and paint schemes.

^^ i'd have to agree. unless you're a really experienced rider on a track/controlled environment, i would hazard a guess that most will never even approach the limits of the bike's true capabilities.
my friends had plenty of fun back in the day at HRP on ninja 250s, old VRF750/700 interceptors (tanks on wheels), hawks, one of my friends even brought her yamaha thumper (i think it was like a 250 or something) out.
don't think she ever topped 60 mph on the front straight, but she had a blast doing it. the larger/faster bikes at track school just gave her plenty of room, so she didn't have to worry about being a rolling roadblock.

i know ^_^ but i was just happy about that fact and i got to rub in my friends face because he's a big cbr fan.
man i need to get a job so i can save up for the class and eventually the 675. it would help if my old boss who's on oahu would give me my $1600
