I may buy a Nissan and was wondering about the dealership service. Good? Bad? Do they offer loaners or have a shuttle service? How hard is it to get an appt? Do they have parts in stock or do you have to bring your car back after they order your part?

King Windward wasn't too bad. Although its a far drive, they were nice enough.

Crap! Those guys are the closest to me.

hey dude!

NCN does have it's share of horror stories, and they were unable to fix my maxima satisfactorily, but to their credit, they did eventually send it to infiniti, who did fix it.

some of the service advisors there (front line people) and mechanics are cool, and have always done right by me and my mother (who has my car now).

their "loaners" are actually vouchers for a rental from Enterprise, last time i required a loaner (although this was like back in 2000 or 2001).

they are in the new location by Love's bakery on King St, but they used to have a shuttle service that went all over the place. shuttle drivers are cool.

if you are going to get a Nissan, have you considered Tony's? If you can still get in touch with Lillian, she might be able to put you in touch with Stan and hook you up (unless you already know him from h.s.).

Stay away from New City Nissan.:nono:

+1 million

I would rather leave my car unlocked with the engine running in the middle of Waianae then to get my car serviced at New City ever again. In addition to that, I would rather bust my head open with a monkey wrench than to deal with their customer relations department.

I only live about 4 miles from New City but I choose to drive 10 miles to Tony Nissan. I've never been to King Windward since that's kinda far for me.

In short, stay the hell away from New City.

Maybe they just treat younger people with complete and utter disrespect. My service advisor was an idiot. He was basically looking for things that I might have modified so that he could blame it on that and turn me down on warranty service. Unfortunately for him, my car was only 2 weeks old (yep...and already had problems due to poor preparation before selling the car to me) so I didn't do anything to the car.

The customer relations manager was a complete ***** to me and treated me like an idiot that knows nothing about cars (again probably due to my age) and in the end, I never got the damn mirror covers fixed. They insisted that they were suppose to look faded and blue (even though my car is black). I settled with something that only looked faded on the bottom because I was tired of going back for something so stupid. Also, I complained about the paint damage (bird shit etches) on the car as well as some horrible swirls and she had the nerve to tell me that the car is gonna look like that anyways.

Lastly, the sales department is a pack of wolves. They sent a newbie salesman to sell me the car and he would constantly go back to his manager who was also the senior sales person. They basically would not back off and let me breathe for a second. They made me feel extremely uncomfortable.

I bought the car form there anyways because I was about to walk out and they settled on a pretty decent price.

Never again.....

With that aside, I will say that the parts department guys are cool. I've never met any of the techs so I can't comment on that.

sorry to hear you had such a bad time there. apart from a couple of problems that their techs just couldn't solve, i believe they attempted to resolve the problems in good faith.

that could be it (the treating younger customers poorly part), although i have heard many horror stories about them and one of the managers in the past, and it was not limited to younger people.

i have been taking my mildly modified car to them since we bought it, and have never had any problems with getting service. some of the parts had to be custom-fabbed, since there were really no readily available, affordable parts for the 4G maximas at the time. our service advisor(s) were more interested in how we fabbed up the parts than denying warranty service (and it went back a LOT for warranty service).

my mother is now driving my car, and i guess the advisors recognize the car b/c she gets the same excellent service i used to get when i went there.

ah, okay. maybe you can look up stan, then? when we used to have our car club meets out there, i ran into him once and he remembered me from hs (classmates).

i'm sure he'd be happy to help out a fellow alum, esp. since you know a bunch of his classmates (me, rich, boyd, etc...) and lillian's classmates.

at the very least, wouldn't hurt to check him out.

Something to think about! I'm thinking about that, a 996tt and maybe an exotic like a 360 or Gallardo.

Act162this
09-01-2008, 06:43 PM
ooh.. 996 tt... that'd be sweet. GT3?

i heard a couple of years ago that two of my classmates have 959s that they road course up on the east coast. one used to have an early 911 t-top when we were in high school. that was a fun car...

N00b
09-01-2008, 07:17 PM
959s? DAYUM! 996tts are fun cars, but not as raw as the old 930s. There's a reason why you see women driving 996s, but not 930s. I am getting old so perhaps something with more comfort and good ac should be added to the stable. The 996tt is a good start, then you mod it so it has @ 600whp. Still streetable with ac. lol The white turbo puts out @ 400whp and it is still civilized, but rather uncomfortable w/o ac and may run hot in traffic.

The other options are a 360 and a Gallardo as both are hovering @ $100k these days. If I find a good one that has services up to date, I can drive it for a couple years and dump it w/o losing money. I did buy a Gallardo a few years back, but it was more a business deal and the car stayed in CA. Never drove the car for the 6 months I had it, but made $$$ when I sold it.

i believe one of them, her older brother (c/o 86, iirc) bought it for her as a present. the other one, i believe she purchased it herself (both lawyers, iirc). guess they gotta unwind after a day at the office somehow.

one had an early 911 targa in h.s. and college, so she is used to the quirky handling. she was always a speed racer type. i tried to get her out to the auto-x so she could see the other 911 and 912s, but she was always working weekends. not surprised she is having her second childhood with a 959.

hmm. choices. i think the built 996tt would make a better sleeper. civilized, can drive it around w/o attracting too much attention, but plenty of power on tap.

I took my truck to Tony's (live in Kapolei) about 3k miles after i got it just to make sure everything was in check. I spent over $500 that day... and i would've spent less than $300 anywhere else. That was after they drained my battery completely, it was just fine before then after they were done it barely had enough to turn over, and the 2nd time i tried the battery was toast.

Ohh man that sucks. Nissan batteries suck anyways so that's alright. Two years in, my battery started leaking acid and it almost destroyed my aluminum battery tie down. Needless to say, I just bit the bullet and bought a red top optima. I didn't want to have to clean all the acid off again.

After seeing the amount of crap wrong with my Altima, I think I have an idea of what NCN does (or doesn't do) to the cars.

The paint damage on my car meant that it was covered in bird crap for months...then when they found a buyer, they just wiped off the crap and ignored the oxidation. I guess because a porter cable is just too complicated for their monkeys to use....(no offense to anyone who works there).

I only said monkeys because they sent some guy out to change my mirror covers and he had no idea wtf he was doing.

yo spike you own a 3.5SE Altima?

Dude...there are some serious problems with that whole car! I've been struggling with them ever since. After 7 years I decided to call it quits.

I never enjoyed the car...it was never the "sleeper" it was supposed to be with a V6 motor squeezed into a sedan. I had thought it would be sporty, but it was just a bucket.

You would think though having 240hp and similar torque it would be fast. But being an FF instead of FR is the problem. All that power goes nowhere.

-------------
oh yeah whats funny...before the 02 Altima, the 808Altimas group was pretty strong and I joined them as soon as I bought the 02 Altima...but then thats where the nightmare happened. When people bought the new 02-09 Altimas all hell broke loose. People started hating that car, I was watching alot of 808Altima members who had that car sell it soon after. Same with the larger national Altima forums...members fled from the 02-09 Altima!

And it was painful. The non-Altima owners or those who owned the older models couldn't understand why so many 02-09 Altima owners were so pissed off. There were alot of heated debates and arguments in the 02-09 Altima sections....makes the debates here look like kissing contests.

For a time I was like them too, I hated Nissan so bad I wanted to park my car there one day and set it on fire to complain!

I actually have a 2.5s so I don't have a monstrous amount of power going into the front wheels. I do auto cross the thing and it does surprisingly well for something that's essentially a camry or accord. I guess the 2.5 is a tad lighter up front so there isn't that great of a tendency to understeer. I used to be a part of 808altimas like a year ago, then everything just sort of died. My altima is still running strong and hopefully it stays that way. I already put in a header so that i don't have to worry about the precat getting ingested.

The only real problems i have with the car are squeaking brakes and a fidgity transmission. The brakes fade under normal braking randomly and the transmission freaks out when I cost up hill and then hit the gas again (it'll neutrual rev momentarily and then kick it into gear causing a violent jerk).

But yeah, I'm done with Nissans and FWD cars after my Altima....unless I find a stock 240 in great condition (but i'm done with FWD period).

Yeah be glad you got the 2.5. The 3.5 is overrated and sucks. I am done with Nissan for now, till somehow they get their act together and build better cars, with good service.

I'm leaning on BMW now. Considering the 328 or 335.

actually i think the older Mitsu's are like Dodge... haven't heard much shiite on the new ones. See the problem with Nissan is that they had tried and true designs that never really failed. I mean, the 240sx, the sentra, the hardbody, the older frontiers... hell everything before 2004 seemed to be a better build quality than most of their cars today because they wanted them to be more luxurious and have that edge over what Toyota and Honda were selling for similar-classed cars.

I totally agree. Having sat in a 2nd gen altima, even though the interior isn't the nicest thing in the world, it feels like what you paid for. In the 3rd gen altima I have, it feels like its trying to be a little more than what it's worth and ends up feeling really cheap even though it looks expensive.

That's because the 1st and 2nd gen Altimas had a ka24de engine :pirate1:

Yea, I have to agree with that too. The car got a lot bigger since the 2nd gen (~100 lbs heavier too) and had a mild increase in power for the 4 cylinder. This was one of the reasons why the last gen of 300zxs didn't take off too well either. Too many frills when the base was meant to be a sports car.
