View Full Version : Stolen Tools!

A bunch of tools and toolboxes were stolen from a dealership in honolulu 9/3/08. We are mechanics out here buying our own tools and trying to make a living then these jackasses do this. The tools are gone and we are likely to not see them again. But, information leading to the prosecution of these people would be helpful! So if you know anything please contact me so we can get some kind of closure on this thing because when you're putting $10,000 up for tools of your own hard earned money and someone takes that in one shot, it should'nt go without punishment. Any help would be appreciated!

That is really some messed up crap. I feel no pity for the 'bachi' these kind of theives get when their time runs up. I feel no pity for the theives that rip off stuff that people worked very hard for. It's a shame that people actually do these kind of things. I hope that something will happen and they'll get their due justice.

the only way justice will be done is if the mechanics catch them. if they get into the justice system, nothing will happen to them - they'll get let out with a slap on the wrist, maybe even a warning, but that's about it.
even if they're ordered to pay restitution, nothing will happen to them if they can't or don't, and the mechanics are still out tools. the only real losers are the mechanics who worked hard for those tools.
besides, if the mechanics catch them and exact "street justice", the mechanics will probably get arrested and charged, and spend more time in cellblock or jail than the theives. then the thieves will turn around and sue them, and win. mechanics lose again.

I hope one of the toolboxes fall on them and nobody finds them for a while.
Does the dealer's insurance cover any of the losses? If any of the mechanics have homeowner's insurance that policy might also cover some of their loss even if it was at work. Depends on the policy and company.

Depends on the policy and company.I was wondering the same, but I don't think the dealer's insurance will cover. If it does it's probably only a fraction of the true amount of what the tools are worth.

This doesn't have anything to do with the recent firings there, right? Those guys might be prime suspects.

Did they have recent firings? If they did, I'm sure that they would be on the prime suspect(s) list.

Dont know if the company insurance is cover anything, but I know the last guy that got stuff stolen, got a penny for his dollar, if you know what i mean. The place could prolly use better security and I dont know if it has to do with recent firings, I only know of one firing lately and dont think that guy has anything to do with it.

Can all the mechanics that got their stuff jacked ask that management step up their security measures? That was quite a bit of total monetary loss (not to mention the degradation of morale, if any).

hmm. if the toolboxes are the rolling snap-on type, that would take a pretty coordinated effort to move things that big, and transport them (not to mention get into the garage bays, i assume there's an alarm system or something in place).
if lots of tools were stolen, start checking the pawn shops. nobody needs that many duplicate tools - they're probably being sold for pennies on the dollar to fund someone's drug habit.
i know people theorized it's an inside job, and although you'd hate to think so, it seems hard to imagine any other way a job of this magnitude could be carried off unnoticed.
security cameras?

damn dude, that sucks..second time or so right? hope the guy who stole the tools gets a engine block in his face.
a mechanics tool is his bread and butter man..you take that away from him and you basically screw him over..

Haha, been there done that. This will be the like the 5-6th occurance. Not all times have been raids on tools. But believe me we've been trying to get them to step it up! Dont know why they're not doing anything about it.
Does anyone know if there is any legal action that can be taken if the company wont compensate for anything and there HAVE been multiple thefts and no action has been taken to make security efforts better? I mean how can you say come work for us but you need to buy your own tools and leave them here at your own risk and if it gets stolen then tough luck! That must have sue job written in there some where right??

No security cameras, YET. I heard those are supposed to be coming up though. And yes there are alot of theories of inside jobs, we do have a couple shady characters here that do shady things but no way to connect them to these thefts so we cant really say anything without something solid. And Im sure the tools are gonna be sold somehow or somewhere, which is why I started this thread, this island is so small someone usually knows something. But like the other guys said, the tools are the bread and butter. You gonna **** around like that dont be taking shit like that, we're all just honest guys trying to make money and keep the boat floating, now some guys are here sitting there with their thumb up their ass cause they aint got tools to use, and we dont get paid by the hour, so they aint making no money right now, might as well not be employed and it aint like we got $5 G's sitting around to go and replace all those tools right away. So yeah its a lose, lose situation.

Blue point, Snap on kinds of stuff, if you know/see anyone that got a whole bunch of stuff to get rid of, thats pretty suspicious, so if you guys know/see anything like that, please let me know and tell that person to come back anytime, cause this time we'll leave the gate open for them and we'll be waiting!!

wow thats totally fked up!
didnt lois post up before that someone broke it to the shop? like rob said? the company didnt put in cameras or better security yet? dude thats the companies fault they didnt take actions to protect their employees i would be totally pissed off! NO CAMERAS Either? wtf
i sure hope the shop had mechanic's insurance plan that covers tools for them. if not must be shitty working for that company.
let me tell you moving a filled snap on row-a-way or chest is not easy! those things were ment not to move around easy. 10k? thats not even close to how much tools each mechanic owns... heck the box alone is more then have that!
feel sorry for them being that i just spend a grip load of tools for myself as well

Yes, Im very pissed that this happened again and no security measures have been put up yet! Dont know about the insurance plan though. And yeah those boxes are extremely heavy and I dont think it was a one man job and yeah its alot of money so if theres no kind of reimbursement coming our way then gonna look up if theres any type of legal action can be taken cause I think its the companys fault for not putting anymore security up from the last time! So someone needs to burn!!

did any of the tools have engravings?
the company has to provide some type of insurance or responsibility but never know...
hate to say it but probably most of the common toys would be probably be hitting pawn shops within days

As a mechanic, I feel for ACID. I don't know what would I do if my toolbox disappears. Our tools is our livelihood, it's worse than having your car stolen. I really hope they find the bastards. And WTF the dealership should cover at least a good portion.

It would really show how much you appreciate (or not) your people by the actions that they are taking right now. And the proposed actions/measures that they should be doing so that this kind of thing doesn't happen again.
ACID you said, the last time? You mean to say this happened before?
If it did, and it happened again (this time) that really, really is messed up!!!

Yeah its happened more than a few times even, but not always theft of tools, just thefts and break-ins. So yeah.
NEWS FLASH!! The company finally decided to have a security guard on the grounds the whole time no one else is here at the dealership!! But I still hope the come back and get caught, though I'd like to acutally catch them myself. One of the techs acutally stayed over last night walking the grounds, rather him tie the guy up and wait till I get here to exact some street justice to let him know he messed with the wrong guys stuff!!

holy shit thats jacked... was not too long ago someone posted about a giant mac box jacked from the same place ya... chronics stepping up driving flatbed trucks???

This is the first I hear of Pflueger not covering theft of tools. I worked for Acura in Honolulu, and some of my shit got jacked. Pflueger covered our loses with the shop insurance.
I know that a long time ago, they got jacked when it was the Lincoln dealership and they all got new tool boxes and tools courtesy of Jimmy Pflueger.

if they're not getting paid, they can't replace their tools.
