Hey everyone,

Has anyone had experience with shipping parts from Japan? I found a pretty decent race ready AE86 Levin for a decent price. From what I understand, sending the car is not gonna be worth it, so my next idea/option is to take all the goodies off the car and send them to Hawaii.

I am planning to take anything worth keeping, but has anyone had experience in sending front car clips and wheels? How much you think it will cost? Am I better off ordering a small container and sending all the parts together or is sending separately cheaper?

Thanks for any help,
hachirolla

I would think that the container option would be cheaper, but then again I've been wrong before. :)

Might want to check into Japan Arlines and All Nippon Air's cargo prices as well.

I was going to ship a car from New Zealand to Hawaii - it was strange, but actually cheaper to ship it to Los Angeles and then back here!

you could freight the car over, probably gonna cost you about $2k. If it's going to be used for offroad use, say...SCCA?:urlaub: you might have some leniency from DOT. dunno..try getting a hold of the DOT people about that.

I've also heard that it's not hard to ship a car if it's for off road use only. Don't know if it's true or not, but it might be worth looking into.

Hawaii is really difficult to ship a vehicle over here for "off road use" only.

Friend of mine tried to bring in a Japan spec Ducati, it got stuck at Customs, ended up having to ship it back to Japan. This was in a military household goods shipment, too. He tried the racetrack only argument, was pretty much told as long as there were lights on the vehicle and/or there was a road going version, no way Jose.

If you really want to do it, ship to a mainland state first. Pick one of the more lenient ones. register/title there first, then bring to Hawaii.
