I think we should leave this contest open until we get a significant number of entries. HT's Photo section is still new, and we need to let people know that it exists first.
I'll be submitting a nice shot soon... My wife has been sick. :(

Ah man do I miss photography. Back in the 80s with my Minolta and my trusty backup Pentax. I had a wide assortment of different lens and several different flashes.

Awesome new section! Photo contests will make me drag my camera out more, and that's a good thing. :)
Silhouettes have always been a favorite of mine. Hrm... now to find a willing subject.

it's listed under the pic. waterproof Olympus 720SW point and shoot. not my fav but small. got a Canon S80 w/housing and it's much better. Either still no comparison to a fullsize but I'm working on that. if you guys haven't checked K2's weblinks yet you should! :D

hahaha what a doof! it's not bulletproof. the test might only be a single drop from x height and tadaa certified. the waterproof is also rated, like only couple meters for an hour at a time. the camera itself has only rudimentary rubber seals but surprisingly, it does work! most of the time I'm on the surface anyways and also have this camera "condom" which helps further against shock and moisture. I want to get one of those for the dslr too.
ps. thanks for "the add" :p

the dslr underwater housings cost almost as much as the cameras! lol. I would feel safer using a $300 camera in the ocean and if it breaks, then oh well.
this forum is really slow. how many people post here???

The photography section is only a few weeks old...and the majority of HT visitors aren't into photography I guess. We'd appreciate it if you'd spread the word to your compadres, and help grow the place! Oh...and post some of your great images to our gallery! There's already some beautiful photos there, but we always could use more. I've allowed everyone to put their contact information on their photo gallery uploads for people that would like to advertise their photography services as a way of saying thanks for contributing.

true. thing is the point and shoots just don't have the muscle to take great shots in the water except under ideal conditions, like a static shot in good light. if you could preset everything that would help things but then shot to shot speeds still lack (3 fps or worse). I been trying with less than desired results :( then feel bad because took the pounding out there but despite best efforts shots still no came out as desired. sucks major balls!
but what they do got going for them is small size :) like stick it in your surf pocket size. that rocks. it's going to be another whole new game with a fullsize camera and housing. and the ocean. and boardriders. :juggle:

Sony DSC-F717 Cybershot
Digital This shot is my favorite. Its almost surreal. I like the stark contrast of the body against the sky, which almost looks liquid in a way.

Olympus 720SW mini-cam, no external water housingThis was a close pick. I also enjoyed this photo alot. I like how the detail of the water is still visible against the setting sun. The color gradient of the sky is also very pleasing, and everything is arranged in a very visually pleasing manner. It looks a bit empty though, as if maybe a few more surfers would have completed the frame. (I know, its nothing you had control over =)
3rd Place http://farm1.static.flickr.com/145/425061388_765bcd035a.jpg
Canon 5D
24-105 @ 24mm

ISO 400This was a nice pic. I like the highlights on the hair of some of the people in the audience. Good use of the existing lighting. Kind of low ISO for that dark of a situation though. Good job.
Thanks to all who participated! Now it's AX's turn to run the show!
