This is why my son or daughter will never drive my hot rod. Some guy's 18 year old kid was showing off and totaled his brand new Vette.

I hope the lesson was learned by the parents and the yound adult. Really I don't have any remorse for what was done. You knew it was coming based on the blatent factors that we can see.

I went to high school in an upper middle class area of San Diego. LOTS of my friends got brand new friggin cars for their 16th birthday. When I asked my Pops about my car, he just laughed and suggested that if I really wanted a car I'd get a job.

As much as I hated his decision at the time, I agree with him now. If / when I have kids I might buy them a car on their 16th birthday...but it'll be something like a Toyota Tercel that's at least a few years old. Something with enough power to get them around and that's it.
