Actually, because people here are so courteous and looking out for each other, I find it difficult to believe the city scored so low.

Been driving to waianae quite often since last week. Very courteous drivers over there. I like how they follow the 35 mph speed limit and how pedestrians always use the crosswalks and everyone uses their turn signals.

I really think the drivers are quite courteous here as well. It was very intimidating when I first moved here, when I saw the shear volume of cars and really complicated roads.
But as long as you politely turn your turn signals on and make it clear you intend to turn, people let you cross on over all the time. The only exception is usually elderly people that don't notice you want to turn.
The best part is the shaka, which doesn't really have a similar counterpart on the mainland.
In most mainland cities I've driven thru, people are far less likely to let you change lanes, and don't show many positive gestures.

the biggest danger here is that NOBODY can MERGE properly!!!! :furious:

the best example of that is the university interchange...

Ugh... you're right, Crayon. People can't merge here, and for the most part nobody seems to pay attention.

You're only allowed to drive a constant 35mph if you've got a Kamehameha sticker on your back window. I swear ...some people act like it's their constitutional right to block traffic.

If you want to go slow...fine. Move the **** OVER! If you're in the right lane and I'm behind you, then I have no reason to be upset. If you're in the LEFT lane and you're going slow then you need to move the hell over. People in Hawaii for the most part have no understanding of how traffic is actually supposed to flow. ...they SLOW DOWN on on-ramps instead of accelerating to the flow of traffic and merging. They don't look for pedestrians.

People in Southern California drive much, much faster. At least they can merge there.

I think the biggest problem is that people get in their cars and forget that there are humans in the other lumps of metal around them...and they have just as much right to get where they're going as you do.

...and what the hell is up with people running red lights??? I wish I had a nickel for every time I've seen someone go through a light that changed more than 2 seconds ago. Just what the hell is so important in your life that you have to risk *my* life to get through the light?
