*sigh*

Well, here we go... I installed new wheels on my Silverado, and bought NEW GM tire pressure sensors so I wouldnt have to dismount the original tires to extract the old sensors from my original wheels.

Instead of having a metal stem and cap like the earlier versions, these look like conventional rubber valve stems, with the exception of the internal unit, and the slightly different shape of the body.

I picked the truck up scrolled through the Driver Information Sensor (DIC) to check the new pressures (set at 35 PSI, all 4 corners) and everything worked fine... for about 10 miles, when the system showed a failure of the TPMS... (Tire Pressure Monitoring System).

I got home, followed the "relearn" procedure as listed in the manual, and it says to start with the feft front, and work clockwise around the vehicle. Starting the relearn procedure and found the left front responded, but the right front would not. At this point I made two calls: 1) To the tire shop to inform them of the problem, and 2) assuming the sensors to be bad, ordered 2 "spares" to replace the one "suspect" sensor.

Last week, I make an appointment to check the system with the tire shop. I drop the truck off, explaining the procedure as outlined in the manual as well as the steps I took to try and rectify the situation before calling them. I left the truck, and they called within 15 minutes to inform me that I needed to take the truck to the dealer to reprogram the ECM for the new sensors.

I find this unusual as the TPMS worked when I left the tire shop, then failed within 10 miles. Alright... The tire shop says they will get me the transponder numbers from the sensors, so they can be programmed into the ECM. They dismounted the tires (I think) to do this as I waited 2.5 hours to get this info.

I head up to the dealer and they are missing the "Tool" to do the calibration. (Kent-moore J tool) I wait a week, then follow up again with the tire shop and let them know whats going on. They check the dealer and verify the dealer now has the tool and to schedule an appointment. My Appointment was today at 2:30 pm.

Fast Forward to 2:30 today... For some reason, the scan tool (Tech 2) is not seeing the sensors. The J-tool is not seeing the sensors either, and now NONE of the sensors seem to respond to the relearn as indicated in the manual. I suspect the sensors to be defective/damaged, but have to take the truck to the dealer I purchased the parts from for them to run thru the diagnosis (That we already did) to verify the parts are defective (GRRRR)

I'm so disgusted I want to put the stockers back on..

dayum man... that's some techno bs right there... sounds like an awsome system if its working properly. :confuse2:

sheeet, my tires leak air and i have no sensors

TPMS would never have become federally required if Ford Explorer owners checked their air pressure, Ford Motor Company did not spec low inflation pressure(27psi?) to make their SUV ride better than the competition and Firestone didnt make that batch of defective Wilderness A/Ts.

As a result of that, we're stuck with this crap...

And to top it all off, the sensors are back ordered!

wow pretty soon humans are gonna lose the ability to do things for themselves..

cory, I agree... if it werent for the dam warning display on startup, I would have left the damn sensors OFF... gawdammit

UPDATE:... the WOES are OVER!...

After a month of screwing with this... I went to see the good folk at Waipahu Auto. Carefuly explained the situation of what was done and the fact I had 4 NEW spare TPMS sensors installed with the new wheels...

Here is the kicker...

The tool the dealership uses cannot scan through the wheels I have... they actually had to put the scanner against the sidewall to see the sensor... Once they figured THAT out... the rest was easy...

no more TPMS light... YIPEEE!

On ours the TPMS sensor doesnt power on until the wheels are in motion. Meaning there is no way to test them while the car is stationary. If u have a dead sensor the only way to find out which one it is, is to change each one out one by one and drive around. If u have more than 1 dead sensor... repeat the process for multiple sensors at a time. its a huge pain in the ass. usually better to just buy 4 sensors (and they are not cheap).

maybe iam lucky! mines sensors wen the ABS/Brakes show a different rotating speed from the others wen driving.... ( low pressure tire)....not real sensors anywhere except for on the brakes...theres also a reset button i just press and it resets and i can reset the correct pressure or not correct pressure...

Dont remind me about sensor cost... I bought 2 sets.... plus I still have the OE wheels and the ones that came in them... LOL

TPS is 0-0.5 volts... how hard can THAT be?... lol...
