so on tuesday i go in for a job interview for a student hire job at kaneohe marine corps base. clerical desk thing at the hospital...
i'm gonna dress nice, but do you think i'm going to have to take out my piercings and color my blue hair back to black?
i'm just wondering if that stuff will fly.
the hours are super flexible around school and i'd start as a GS-4 and make steps based on credits earned... so i'd be willing to look nice out of respect for the pay. i'd just be sad to have to close up my labret

Of all the military services, the Marine Corp is the most conservative. For instance, if my Marine buddy needs to go on base to shop on a Sunday afternoon, he has to shave first. Three days worth of beard just doesn't cut it, even out of uniform.
You may want to remove the piercings and revert to black hair. It that goes against your grain, I'd recommend not working for the military, especially the Marines.

hahahahah he's a civilian applying. I think it doesn't matter, show up to the interview as who you are. As for myself being prior Marine Corps, those regulations only apply to those who are in the service.
Who knows if you get denied and are able to prove that your discriminated against because of your personality and who you are. Then so be it.
As for me being prior military, I have no intentions on cutting my hair just for an interview, maybe I'll just trim my facial hair. But as a civilian no one can down you or tell you what you can and can't do unless you sign a contract.

... the Marine Corp.. .
Corps, man. Marine Corps! :)
If I was applying, I'd definitely take out my piercings. You can leave 'em in, but like KK said, the Marine Corps is pretty strict on standards of dress.

i was gonna dye or bleach my hair black or blonde... depending on how i feel. because the blue is almost dead and it's too expensive to keep dying it over and over...
i'm just gonna go to the interview with my industrial and labret in and see what they say. and if they say anything i guess i can negotiate options for them...

you know it's since I served in the Marine Corps that made me realize the freedom I could have as a civilian. They can't do shit to a civilian for dressing up how they want to though. Unless you sign a contract when they employ you.
Now when I go on the Marine Base with my father I laugh as the fellow Jarheads give me this weird look like I need a haircut. When little do they know I used to have my zero to three regulation for about 10 years of my life. It's grand being a civilian after serving, I f*cken love it. I value the little things that most people forget about.

F*ck it leave it on dude. If the women can wear earrings then why can't you wear your piercings? If women can dye their hair a color that is not natural for them then why can't you dye your hair. You're not selling your looks you're selling your abilities. Looks have nothing to do with how you work. It's discrimination if they try to tell you to not be you.

In way your still are selling your abilities. You're selling your commitment and loyalty to them. Any business or company hates a high turnover rate.

Being in the federal system again would be good. I was kinda lured to my current job with the promise that we'd go federal "soon"... yeah, right. The dog I handle is federal, but I'm just joe shit the rag man!
Ox you're right about freedoms... remember the 'ole, "Protector of Rights and Holder of None?" I was always amazed that all the rights we were fighting to protect we didn't hold ourselves. THAT...Alanis... now THAT is irony. Not "a traffic jam and you're already late." Hahaha. That song always bugged me.
Good luck with the interview!
