Supposedly there's a Hakosuka coming to the islands this year! It belongs to a Marine who's coming from Cali from what I remember.

theres a guy here with a right hand drive older corolla, like the 70's one...its sitting on some sick black watanabe's...its from japan and when i saw it at my friends house i was like GOT DAYUM!!!
Yeah, you can't just throw a statement like that out there and not explain!
he's so in trouble.
apparently he's trying to rid himself of the stupid car he shouldn't have purchased without researching all the s h it that was required...and is now possibly committing fraud with his paperwork.
the thing is instead of trying to come clean he keeps trying to hoodwink the DMV and they've been watching him for aaaaages.
i saw the car and met that guy way back when he first tried to get it registered.
he spent $80K+ getting the car...and that wasn't even with federal compliance (he didn't have a register importer even TOUCH the car yet).
and he's supposedly trying to unload this car from hell for $15K
???

well i surely hope this guy has federal compliance and doesn't do what this other goofball is trying to do.

I'll buy it for 15k.
Then let it sit in my garage until it's 20 years old, then drive it.

I think those can be street legal, cause they are old enough. I'm looking up the exemption right now.
as long as it's not like this guy...

I'd buy it, and strip it, and turn it into a race car. :D

Here is the deal.
If you have one of the few motorex skylines, that was imported and legally purchased before they lost their RI license, then it's all Good, only vehicles brought in after w/ the exception of the R33, which is still ellgible.
you know why Motorex went out of business, right? they were making the paperwork and not actually doing the work to make the vehicle FMVSS complaint. they got busted for that and paid a sheetload of fines. i'm sure they DID do some work to some of the cars, but a lot of guys got screwed because nothing (physically) was ever done to their car to make it compliant.
so...i can see some guys getting screwed in the future (if they haven't already) if and when their vehicle is inspected.

It would be legal to make this into a trailer only race car though?
hmmm.... damn I'm so tempted...

that's a good question - my guess would be that as long as it never touched a public road, it might be okay? someone with more experience/knowledge would probably be the best resource, though... and i'm not sure how insurance would factor into this also.
when i used to auto-x, i tried to register/insure my car as a race use only vehicle, but was informed that to do so, it would have to be trailered to events and back and couldn't be used on public roads at all (planned on driving to barbar's point/back only). ended up paying regular/full coverage on a car used only 1x month. oops.
i.e., dirt track cars, dragsters, open wheel formula cars are all trailered to the track b/c they're not legal for use on public roads (or whatever the technical terminology is) and AFAIK, they're also not licensed (since they are supposedly never on public roads).
this is all speculation on my part, though.

All the ones that were signed off on by motorex are legal. But it's only a few. Those are the true street legal skylines and those are the ones worth the big bucks. There are a few exemptions. I.e. Nissan itself can bring in a skyline for use on public roads for less than 1k miles per use each year as a 'demo' car, there is an owner of a nissan dealer in texas that does so. I think that foreign governments can do the same, as long as the car has state dept. Plates. We have a consulate for japan here on oahu. I wonder he they wouldn't mind letting me register a skyline under the consulate?

I tried to add to your rep points, but it wouldn't let me since i think you were the last person i repped. It's the little scale thing on the bottom.
Try it, rep one of my posts, and them try and rep another one of my posts and you will get the same message.
I cant believe that car is still around...

this is pretty much correct.

he was supposed to have surrendered his plates and some other stuff but he kept putting it off.
he will get into more trouble pretty soon.

You have to register a car that's race-use only?
Do insurance companies cover a race-only car?
Some insurance companies will insure competition vehicles for comprehensive coverage ONLY. They will not issue collision coverage for a "race only" vehicle (at least not the ones I checked)
Itried to get collector car insurance for my MCSS, but was unable to because I stated the vehicle would be used for racing as well as street...
Shoulda kept my mouth shut...

No, provided that the vehicle is not driven or parked on a public road.

hey lois, if that guy is seriously selling his car for $15k, I have a friend who might be interested... he lives part time in Japan and could probably ship it back there without it getting impounded, then use it there ( he has a parking space too that bastid). :D

Another thing about Motorex is that the crash testing they did was only on R33 models. They used that data and applied it to the R32 and R34 also, which is the wrong answer. The R33 is still legal in the U.S. (as long as it's converted to U.S. specs) but the R32 and R34 are not. Problem with the conversion is that Motorex was the only company with info on one of the needed conversions (something regarding spot weld points or some shit). I got a list from an RI out in Maryland back when I was in the mainland that had all 13 of the necessary conversions to make an R33 street-legal (was trying to get stationed in Japan at the time and was planning on bringing one back with me). For the most part is wasn't too hard (most parts could be swapped from a 300Zx) but some things cost a good bit of money.
I also recall there being some tax evasion issue with Motorex, and heard a rumor of some kind of mafia or mob involvment.

Hiro was involved in a whole bunch of things. My friend/roommate worked at Motorex right before it closed....
you had to hang out with Hiro to know why everything went belly up - that guy would spend thousands at a japanese style bar... a few times a week.
I believe it was C-West that came down and took a bunch of skylines to pay off the couple hundred thousand of debt he had to them...
I wonder what happened later, all I know is I really really wanted that R34 Nurspec II that was hidden on the side of the shop!

Supposedly, a few wannabe Skyline owners got pissed at Hiro when it took him a long time to deliver the goods. Allegedlly, Hiro and a few of his Bōsōzoku buddies roughed up one to "shut him up" and to dispell any dissent of the wannabe owners.
I wish I kept a screenshot of his actual booking info The page went dead a while back.

Isnt this the R33 (non-gtr?)
He paid $80k for that nonsense? i wouldnt even pay $15k for it. Thats what you get for trying to be too JDM for your own good.
i saw a silver G35 with a SKYLINE badge in the rear on my way home yesterday, Lunalilo on-ramp, Ewa-boundtechnically that is a skyline... but its not a GTR. In japan the "G35" is a Skyline R35... thats why you see so many G35s here rebadged.

i also saw a car that looked like your car Harry, right after i saw the G35.
it was blue as well, and it had something like a "Team RSX" sticker on the side. i didn't get a good look, all i knew was that it couldn't have been you.

Before i met him i saw him driving by and i was like, "wtf - someone jacked my car", then i realized I was driving my car, then i realized drugs are bad.
My car now is VERY DISTINGUISHABLE. its the RX8 missing the back 1/3 of the car.
when i saw the car i thought, "i wonder if he posts on forums?" :hihi:
