Default Child Care Referrals for parents on HT

Sup sup!

I was wondering if any of you tell me about your personal experience with Infant/Toddler child care services that you have used.

I'm looking around right now and am wondering how good some of those places really are compared to what they advertise.

Sorry, I really can't help you with that. I'm a stay-at-home-mommy and my friends and I just swap babysitting requests so I've never used any of the childcare service providers out there.

you looking for a facility, or for in-home babysitting (i.e., you drop them off at the babysitter's, pick them up, etc...)?

Doesn't really matter, I just want to get some feed back from the services some of you may have used in the past and the things I should be weary of when doing my inspection of the facility (other than the obvious).

Thanks Lois, but your referal is kind of far off for us to consider. However, since most of the town locations have at least 100+ on their waiting lists, we may reconsider if we can't find anything closer to us.

MLE, your kids are lucky

Well the bad thing with child care facilities around this time is the illnesses. My mom works at a child care facility and the stories she tells it's a wonder shes not sick everyday of the year

you want town?

i'm assuming you want licensed, whether it's a facility or a home, yes?

i've heard there are many good sitters (home-based) in makiki and punchbowl area.

yeah - our son got sick sometimes when he began at the sitters and preschool, but we figured it builds immunity and resistance. pretty much everyone said that it's normal for them to be exposed to stuff at school, etc...

s'okay, except for the crap like that foot and mouth disease (or hand and foot, or hoof and mouth, or whatever the hell it's called), and other infectious, highly contagious diseases.

i'm really paranoid, so i call in sick and take him to the doctor for anything (plus, we only have one child, so i have nothing to compare degrees of illness to. everything is pretty much an thing for me).

Location?
Need License?
Other special request? (i.e. full time care or only certain days, meals provided, potty training included?)

On a personal note, if anyone has good pre-school let me know. Between Kalihi and Manoa or Kalihi and Aiea would be great.

Montessori schools are, IMO, the best. My brothers and I all went to Montessori schools. My Mom was also a teacher at one of the Montessori schools.

I knew that, that why I regarded school in plural.

call PATCH...they have some good people...you just have to be lucky and really screen them because theres some idiots out there as well...

my nephew's baby sitter was a compulsive liar or something...she told my sister she had jury duty and had to go for a week, but when my sister called up the courts they didnt have her name listed...and my sister complained to the social worker...alot of things that the lady does thats shady...oh and the fact that they get 2 weeks paid vacation sucks...

I already got a fat list from the PATCH Hawaii web site and started filtering through it.

There's just so many choices and waiting lists are insane for a few of them.

We did Patch.
But our baby sitter's name came through word of mouth. There must be a ton of people your age with young kids you could ask. Old classmates etc...

Facebook them!
