| Linux is Awesome HT Chronic Addict Additional Info | 1. you need three times more boxes than you planned. 2. A U-Haul van is freaking awesome...dont bother trying to squeeze crap in a small sedan...U-Haul vans make life easy. 3. Hand-truck 4. Strong packing tape, scissors (yeah I am lazy I use scissors) 5. If moving in town, do it on a weekday 6. Prep work doesnt just mean boxing and packing, it also means cleaning, lots and lots of cleaning 7. Pumice Sticks will clean any stain on hard tile and ceramic (it will make toilet ring disappear...no chemical can match it!) 8. the less you have...the less you have to move. 9. friends are always awesome. 10. Dont try to push everything in a few hours, spread it out over 1-2 days. Your back will thank you. I was out of Waiks and into my new Ala Moana place in a single day. I took an extra day to do the cleaning at the old place so I could get my deposit back. Moving from a 250 sq ft unit to a 450 sq ft unit....its kinda nuts to have all this extra space. But I think the next move will be to a place I purchase. This will probably (I hope) be my last place I rent. Now I am looking to see if a nice 1 br 650-700 sq ft unit goes up for sale below 200k in a decent building...I can wait. __________________ ![]() Quote:

| Stock T_T HT Casual User Additional Info | Very true. Last weekend we moved all of our stuff out of the storage locker. I wish I could explain, but my brain is dead =/ (Yeah, I made like, 20 typos typing this out). __________________ Freedom is the freedom to say two plus two equals four. | Kamikaze HT Casual User Additional Info | yeah, you do tend to accumulate a lot of crap after living in a place for a while. That's why every once in a while, you need to "spring clean" and donate a bunch of shit to charity. The tax writeoffs are good if you have a place. |

2. U-Haul vans (or other similar rental) are the best! It sure beats multiple trips with a small sedan...I can remember hauling my queen size bed on top of my Corsica. It was nuts. Had to stop on the side of the road to recheck & tighten the ropes. 3. Hand trucks are very useful. A dolly is too. Large items in carboard boxes make it easier to haul (drag) too. 4. If strong packing tape isn't available, the clear tape can be used, be sure to double tape the bottom of the heavier items. 5. Most people will wait last minute to move and won't really have that much control of what day it will happen. Good going Chronic, in taking the time to plan your move. It will depend on the area(s) that you will move from and move to that will help in planning your days to move (out & in). Some areas are busier over the weekend. Some are not. 6. Cleaning is an often overlooked part of moving. For those that are too busy (or lazy), 'move out' specialists (or cleaners) are recommended. The amount you pay the cleaners will be often less than your total 'deposit'. 7. Pumice sticks are wonderful pieces of modern technology! it's green! (but I do know that if you have the right chemicals and the correct procedures, you can do the same thing. it's just that these same chemicals are usually on the acidic side. I prefer the pumice sticks myself. 8. This one is so simple... The less you have, the less you'll have to move. It's too bad most of us get caught up in the 'more is better' mentality. Spring cleaning does help in maintaining the level of your wares. 9. Just don't abuse your friends... too many moves and/or cleaning and they'll start becoming distant friends. A 'housewarming party bbq' invite to your new place is awesome for thanking friends. ![]() 10. The time that you do the move in will depend a lot on how much crap you have to move and how many friends you have helping. 2 days would be optimal. 1/2 day for the move. 1 and 1/2 day for the cleaning. __________________ --- so sayeth idio <legalese disclaimer> I am not liable for any assumptions that you may have about my posts idiosyncrasies of the truth inevitably varies with an individual's perception ![]() | |

| Linux is Awesome HT Chronic Addict Additional Info | heh....I just wanted somewhere closer to work, yet at the same time would not be ghetto. I considered downtown, but it just seemed too ghetto. At least here there is Ala Moana, Ward and tons of friends living nearby. __________________ ![]() Quote:
