| Molokai to HNL HT Casual User Additional Info | WOW! Some huge-azz kiawe trees, compared to the twigs we pulled when we deforested our play meadow. What's that "Exchange" thing in the top right of the first picture? I'm just curious like that. You cut nice and straight; and with (what looks like) a 36" bar chain saw! If you saw my 14" Echo, you'd laugh...I have chainsaw envy now. Mean pump, you must have got from swingin' the ax too. __________________ "Every setback is merely a setup for an amazing comeback."; Willie Jolley |

| no bullsh*t HT Casual User Additional Info | the exchange" thing - I think is the excavator - not sure what you are talking about. The chainsaw is a 20" Poulan Pro - cheap saw but good enough. I bought 2 new chains and I sharpen them myself with the dremel. SO far I'm still on chain #1. I don't cut straight - trust me today I will go ride the motard - I cannot swing an ax................ #00 |

| PW Aficionado HT Chronic Addict Additional Info | cool! gotta go check that out when i go to HD today. brother in law's chainsaw couldn't cut butter (when it works at all). i am NOT gonna help him clean up his property again with hedge trimmers, loppers, and a dull machete again. __________________ "wide open till you see God, brake when you see Elvis". |

| no bullsh*t HT Casual User Additional Info | Hee Haw - this is a bigger pic of the excavator you asked about - and sadly it's not mine but belongs to a good friend ![]() I'm saving this one for Mike K - I think he's getting soft and needs to come home with some blisters and all sweaty and dirty - (Elsie probably would reward him) ![]() up to 3 pallets of wood - looks like almost 1 pallet per huge fukcing log ![]() and I just killed that chainsaw in the earlier pics - it's repairable (maybe) but dead for now. Rest in Peace little buddy! ![]() #00 Last edited by zerozero; 07-13-2009 at 06:09 PM. |

I actually gave away all the huge logs but the guy never came to get them so I split it. Anyone wanting some kiawe should cut their own so they can appreciate the work involved and the value. The plan is to use it for the Imu this Thanksgiving - I figure 4 pallets is enough and the rest would go to an Imu at another time. I have a use for all of it. #00 | |

| Kamikaze HT Casual User Additional Info | ^ So how many times you got stabbed? Up on the BI, we used to chop some kiawe for camping & to use to woodsmoke meat & fish. those thorns were up to 2" long and went straight thru the rubbah slippah if you stepped on them. auwe! |

| no bullsh*t HT Casual User Additional Info | my supplier removed all the thorns for me but when we go cut our own we have to use pliers at the end of the day to remove the thorns from the bottoms of our boot - and you do want some very thick soled boots - if you can find them the ones with the steel arch are a winner. 1st time I had one go thru my sneaker and into my foot - we couldn't remove the shoe and didn't have anything to take out the thorn. PAIN! bastard was a hair under 2" long #00 |

| ...mArRiEd... HT Habitual User Additional Info | can you send me some kiawe too...hahaha... if I was on Oahu Id be there in a snap to cut my own kiawe wood just because I KNOW how good that wood is and I LOVE to work for my own stuff...even if it involves hard labor.... __________________ ![]() Quote:

| Kamikaze HT Casual User Additional Info | ^ There's areas with lots of kiawe, the real problem is you'd probably be tresspassing on private or government land to access it and take it. If that weren't the case, I'd be out there loading up the truck for myself and my family a long time ago. From an ethical standpoint, you'd need permission from the landowner first. As #00 puts it.... Quote:
