| iz jus me dakine li'dat! HT Chronic Addict | mahalo for sharing the link(s). idio finds it most interesting; especially since places like these are fascinating (especially when one finally digs up the history). history often shares lessons of tragedy and sadness. __________________ --- so sayeth idio <legalese disclaimer> I am not liable for any assumptions that you may have about my posts idiosyncrasies of the truth inevitably varies with an individual's perception ![]() |

| Kahuna HT Casual User Additional Info | I was just reading about dead or dying towns in North Dakota on National Geographic. Sad how entire towns can just wither away. The Emptied Prairie - National Geographic Magazine Click on the photo gallery. The pictures and accompanying captions are some pretty moving stuff. __________________ ![]() "A good compromise leaves everybody mad." - Calvin |

| PW Aficionado HT Chronic Addict Additional Info | mythbusters sometimes uses abandoned navy bases or even abandoned towns that used to be military housing projects for their more dangerous (explosive) experiments. i thought it was pretty cool that they can just use these shipyards for experiments, blow stuff up, etc... all the buildings look still serviceable, hangars, docks, etc... even the town was pretty eerie because it was so abandoned - it looked like everyone just packed up and left everything. kinda like that show on discovery channel about survival after a disaster or something. __________________ "wide open till you see God, brake when you see Elvis". |

| PW Aficionado HT Chronic Addict Additional Info | ^^ thanksgiving after-party at your workplace? when i was private sector, we worked whenever the stock market was open (investment research). sometimes our firm would be the only one open in the entire building and we'd have the run of the building, lounge area, etc... everyone brought in movies, leftovers, and desserts. productivity went down the toilet after the market closed, and we all probably gained some weight, but at least it didn't feel like we were the only people not enjoying ourselves. __________________ "wide open till you see God, brake when you see Elvis". |
