Dec 23 09- i went to House of Brews at Bar35 last night where it was Rogue beer tasting with special guest Jack Joyce who is the Founder of brewery. Got to talk story with him and drink some awesome beers! Rogue is by far the best beer! i love their style and the way they dont compare to others. best stuff come in 22oz!

i got to try a new Rogue: Chatoe Rogue Dirtoir Black Lager, Very smooth roasted flavor beer. Sort of like the chocolate stout but the chooclate isnt pronounce as much. The Chatoe line is the new line of Rogues brewed at the Farm. good stuff. cant wait for it to be released starting in Jan 2010

so far ive tried 11 Rogues out of who knows how many! lol probably over 30 i believe.. but only about 10 can be found locally.

Not a beer drinker and I'm probably an amateur drinker compared to most of you. Here are my findings.

Absolute Vodka - Absolute Crap, Smirnoff is better
Kahlua - Good on the rocks with whipped cream or some kind of creamer....or just straight shots of it
Baileys - A little weak....good for a girly drink
Crown - i prefer Jack's to be honest
Henessey X.O. - expensive stuff...but don't really care for it.

The only crappy beer I've had was a Heineken...never again. I've only had Kirin, Asahi, and New Castle after that...and I still find no differences between them.

ahhh....Jack Daniels.....Jack n Coke....a classic. Good choice.

Try some Glenfiddich, Johnny Walker Black or Blue, Remy Martin, Chivas, hmm....what else is there?

---------
Beer....the standard (Bud, Coors, Miller) these I just drink whereever as they are universally everywhere. You will need to try more darker and stout beers to get a better appreciation for the stuff.

Try a Guiness, Sam Adams are good, or just hit up Gordon Biersch. It'll take some time...but there are some strong beers out there that can rival hard shots. Granted...oz for oz hard liquor gets you there quicker...but in terms of taste....beers have a certain flavor...it needs to be acquired over time...just like wine. Wine tastes like sh*t the first few times you drink it...but over time...it has its own...that just makes a simple glass of red...absolutely delicious.

dang it...now I wanna drink.

Haha, yeah all this talk makes me want to drink. I think ima take some shots while playing COD later.

Wine is alright, I just don't like having to drink it a special way to appreciate it haha. The whole thing with the aroma....it's all too delicate for me. I've had enough of beer....I made the mistake of playing beer pong with my friend who plays regularly.

Ohh I forgot about sake....the stuff is awesome. I'd prefer that over beer for a casual drink...although it is much stronger.

Sayuri was my first sake....yes it comes in a pink bottle. It's very sweet, kinda like a shochu.

I had 2 bottles of Hana lychee sake stashed at my architecture studio (for those stressful times). It's decent...but its a cheap sake so it's not the best.

Next time I go to Yanagi, I'm going to try the hot sake.

am a big fan of the hana apple sake probabaly drink a little to much cus its just to smooth and the favor hides the alcohol

right now am on a bottle of "mirrors of truth" very good cold sake love it!

everyone should check out whole foods section of beers they have great section of beers! a lot of them are good stuff

Gordon Biersch - am a fan of their marzen its pretty good, the Hefe is really good but other then that the rest arent that surprising. even their octoberfest beer isnt that great - sam adams one is killers!

right now in my fridge i have about 5 different Rogue beers, 1 Stone arrogant bastard, 1 abyss from deschutes. and some others i forget

Deschutes everyone should try! very good beers! they sell the mirror pond ale at foodland i believe good stuff! and some others at whole foods! love their beers...

I heard the Rogue night was awesome. My friends went down and I got continual text from them about it, but I was spending some family time for the holidays and missed it. I have met Jack before and heard many of his stories and tried most of the beers but I still wish I could have been there!

I wonder if it was more crowded then the Chimay nights. Those nights are crazy. Glad to see Andy getting tons of support.

Every 3rd Thursday Sam Choys has a dinner one. $50 for a full dinner and beers. Only problem is that if you go every month you end up drinking the same beers over and over since they only brew a few beers.

Every last Friday there used to be a good one at Donatos. But they went through renovations and I haven't heard anything since.

Andy Baker also has a monthly hops and grinds. Right now its at the lounge in the Honolulu Club.

For wine: Hiroshi's used to have a good one, every monday I think. Aiea Bowling alley also has a semi-tasting on tuesdays.

Yeah I actually haven't seen any on store shelves. I know Yanagi Sushi has the small bottle.

Isn't Sayuri sweet?

I used drink a ton of Hakkaisan Daiginjo when my friend worked at a sushi bar and hooked me up. Now I just drink Mu cause its relatively cheap, dry and decently smooth.

Anyone go to the Joy this year? I was going to go, but new location made me decide against it.

Sayuri isn't necessarily sweet, perse. Its more smooth and mellow. Best if drank ice cold. yum!!!
