Default The Stupid Question Thread: For Serious Answers.

I have alot of these, so I figured I'd make a thread about it. Feel free to add yours. Don't be shy!

Today's question is:

Can you make a dog back down by staring at it in an intimidating fashion? Like a dog whisperer who's also a commando-inja-warrior?

mythbusters tried it, and found they could not.

dog whisperer dude does it on a regular basis, though - just stare it down and not give up or back down until it reaches a calm submissive state of mind.

Apparently, my question isn't that stupid if Mythbusters did it.

Why is it that I've thought about having a thread like this before because I had a lot of unusual questions, but now that there is an actual thread, my mind is blank???

Actually you can. I've done it before, but it really depends on the dog's "personality". If they're the "follower"-type (as opposed to a "leader") sometimes they act-up/bark just-because. On these dogs if you stop in your tracks and look them in the eye, don't say anything...and just glare, they'll start turning their head but constantly look back at you to see if you stopped glaring. If you turn away, they'll act-up again. So just gotta keep giving them the stink-eye.

Why is it that 9 out of 10 people who are first in line at the stop-light, are the last ones to notice it turn green?

I'm guessing:
1. They're inherently slow drivers, which is why they stopped and did not go through the light.
2. They figure they have some time till the next light and might as well get somethings done in the car.

Here's one I couldn't answer: Using today's geographical coordinate system, where would Pangaea have been located?

Ok, here's one that I could never find the answer to, even with the considerable resources of the Internet at my fingertips: What is the phobia that describes the fear of being photographed?

The people who are in charge naming phobias (I assume it's a panel of psychologists) don't seem to have bothered giving this one a name. I find that pretty odd. I personally know a person with this fear, and there are several tribes of primitive people who have this fear. I would imagine it's a common enough phobia to warrant a name. I mean they have phobias like triskaidekaphobia (fear of the number 13) and nomophobia (fear of being out of cellphone range), but nothing to describe the fear of having your picture taken.

Actually, what surpises me the most is THIS? Standing up or sitting down? It absolutely blows my mind that some people actually stand up to wipe their butt! That just seems so crazy!

For the record, I wipe my azz sitting down, thank you very much!

I'm thinking bran makes your poop hard by absorbing water and by stimulating your digestive tract as it goes down. Insoluble fiber is what is in the stuff so it works your digestive organs and makes them run better. So I guess it does both, make your poop harder and more regular.

I just want it to be easier on me...I think I've been eating too much. Back to some water and bread...lol...

Okay...so photaphobia, huh? Noone had an answer for me on FB either.

Alright, here's a new one...I ate at a Mexican place last night and the thought struck me. Why the hell do they call them "refried beans"? It's not like they refry them! Sure, they'e soaked, stewed, mashed, then cooked...but they NEVER get refried!

Someone is on crack somewhere...

Photaphobia doesn't appear to be an accepted or widespread term, though. If it was an official term, I'd expect to see it appear on a lot more sites, especially the more professional/official ones. Mostly, when the word appears online, it seems to be a misspelling of photophobia (fear of light). I would love to see it catch on, though, just because it seems there should be a word for it.
